HYMAN BUSHLOIVITZ, OF READING, PENNSYLVANIA.
MEASURING AND FITTING FORM FOR BODY GAR/MENTS.
Application led August 29, 1922. Serial No. 585,020.
To all whom t may concern,
Be it known that I, HYMAN BUsHLowITZ,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Reading, in the county of Berks and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in lifeasuring and Fitting Forms for Body Garments, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to garment measuring and fitting devices for tailors and dressmakers; and it consists in an improved form comprising adjustably connected vertical and circumferential measuring strips and adapted to be removed from the figure to which it has been adjusted for subsequent use as a fitting form, as fully described in connection with the accompanying drawing and clearly defined in the subjoined claim.
Fig. l is a front elevation of a preferred embodiment of my invention; the adjusted device being shown and set up as a fitting form apart from the figure to which it has been adjusted.
Figs. 2 and 8 are corresponding rear and side elevations of the same.
Figs. 4 to 7 are separate views of certain of the parts indicated.
The device as shown comprises al top frame work made up of a neck band 5, and an arm opening band 6, 6 on eac-h side thereof adjustably connected thereto by separate shoulder strips 7, 7. These bands are preferably formed of sheet metal shaped respectively to required neck and arm openings, with each arm-opening band preferably formed in two adjustably connected parte 6 and 6a as indicated to permit of readily sizing the opening-edge 6b 'thereof as required, and the spread thereof from the neck band 5 being regulated by the separate adjustable shoulder strips 7, 7 said neck band 5, as shown, being open in the front so as to more readily permit removal of the adjusted device from the measured figure.
Suspended from this adjustable top frame work are series of vertical and circumferential measuring strips or bands of resilient sheet material; the vertical side strips 10, l0 being secured to the respective armopening bands with the top ends thereof on the opening-edge 6b; and the uppermost circumferential strip 1l, formed in separate front and rear parts, being similarly connected to said arm-opening band; while additional vertical measuring strips, '10, 10",
l()c in front and l0, 10e, 10 in rear, are similarly connected to the open neck,v band 5 and shoulder strips 7, 7k as indicated. These depending resilient strips are crossed by additional circumferential measuring strips 11a, 11", ll, at required measuring points; the crossings in each case being` engaged by suitable slip-clamps l5, l5. l5,
adapted to permit of relative adjustment of the strips at each crossing point as desired and to retain the same in the adjusted relation required to conform the parts with the shape of the figure to which the device is applied.
The resilient stiffness of the parts of my improved structure is such as to insure its return tothe shape of the figure to which it has been conformed by required adjustment, even though it be considerably disturbed temporarily in removing it from such ligure; the essential purpose of my invention being to not onlyprovide for conveniently reading all important figure measurements upon the Xedly adjusted parts thereof, but to permit of subsequently using it as a fitting form for the garment made therefrom without changing the essential adjusted connections made in shaping it upon vthe figure. To enable removal of the adjusted form from the figure to which it has been adjusted, it is necessary only to provide for disconnecting the overlapping end portions of the severa-l circumferential measuring strips il, il, 1lb, 1l", in a vertical line with the open neck band 5 as indicated at the front in Fig. il.; so that the form may be forcibly sprung to spread apart the normally adjacent vertical strips 10b, 10b, sufficiently to enable removal of the form from the figure similarly to the removing of a` coat. The required temporary bending of the resilient strips is without effect upon their slip-clamp connections l5, at the crossings; which, asv shown in Figs. 4 and 5, are simply made of sheet metal, with pairs of spaced slots 15 and 15b provided for engaging the vertical strips and horizontal strips therein, the slight bending of the passing strips serving to prevent any unintended change of position. The meeting ends of each circumferential strip are disconnectably clampable together at properly adjusted length, simply by means of a clamping sleeve 20 frictionally gripping the inserted ends, which ends may be drawn through said sleeve for adjustment of length, or Withdrawn entirely to disconnect the ends and enable removal o1C the adjusted form from the `figure, and thereafter' reengaged as previously determined to rigidly set the removed form for use as a. specially adjusted fitting -form for the garment. l/Vhen used as a fitting Jterm, the removed frame may be supported in any convenient manner, as on ligure stand. And in connection with the frame I may employ special charts or diagrams upon which the measurements read on the body-adjusted 4frame may be set down and used later in setting up a. corresponding frame. Where measurements are made in one shop and the garment made up in a distant factory. Additional strips may be added When required to give bodyconformation to the fitting frame7 and positive nut-clamping connections used in place of the slip-olamps shown and described.
What I Claim is:
ln a combined measuring and fitting form for body garments, the combina-tion With a top body frame Work made up of an openfront neck band and arm opening` bands, each independently adjustable and united by adjustable top shoulder straps, of ay series of front, Side and rear resilient measuring strips suspended from said frame and carrying a series of circumferential measuring strips of like material, the latter havinglr their meeting ends overlapping a central vertical line of the form7 adjustable slip clamps at the crossings of said vertical and circumferential strips, and releasable clamping devices for said overlapping` ends of the circumferential strips, whereby the latter may be parted to form an opening to said form.
In testimony whereof- I affix my signature.
