APPARATUS TQ FACILITATE THE MAKING HONEY FRAMES.
Application filed March 8, 1922. Serial No. 542,184.;
facilitate the nailing and wiring of honey frames and the objects of my invention are: First, to provide an apparatus of this class which is adapted to receive the machine cut frames and hold the same in place therein and the separate parts with each other for nailing; second. to provide an apparatus of this class which will receive and hold various types of frame parts; third, to provide an apparatus of this class which will re ceive the nailed frames and grip the end pieces thereof contracting and warping the same to facilitate the wiring of said frame thereby inherently stretching the wires when the frame is released; fourth, to provide novel means for gripping, contracting and warping the end pieces of the honey frame and holding the same in certain position; fifth, to providean apparatus of this class in combination with a means for making a loop on one end of said wire; sixth, to provide an apparatus of this class which is novelly constructed: seventh, to provide an apparatus of this class which is applicable for cross or parallel wired frames, and eighth, to provide an apparatus of this class which is very simple and economical of construction, durable, portable, easy toadjust and operate, and which will not readily deteriorate or get out of order.
With these and other objects in View as will appear hereinafter my invention conslsts-of certain novel features of construetlon, combination and arrangement of parts and portions as will be hereinafter described in detail and particularly set forth in the appended claims reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to'the characters of reference thereon which form a part of this application, in which:

Said f table member isprovided with, an upright member 2 near its middle portion and reinforced therewith, by the braces 3. The table member 1 is provided with a positioning member .4 adjacent the front side of the upright member 2 mortised'in said table memberand upright memberand secured there-to by means of the screws 4;. Said member a is provided{withdugsor stops 4" l at either end for-positioning the'member' A of the honey frame therebjetween in its reverse order. A guide portion 4is provided at the front side of said positioning member to prevent the member A slipping out of the. lugs 4". Said positioning member is further provided with spacers 5 securedto the back upright portion of said positioning member for spacing said member A from the back upings. The lugs 4 are further adapted; to;
prevent the member A being displaced when right portion of said positioning member to joined to the member B by driving in the nails C while the honey frame is in the position as shown in Fig. 6 of the drawings. With the member A positioned downwardly the rail 1) is nailed LOtllG members B; An angle 6 is provided at the upper portion of the upright member 2 preferably mortised therein and secured thereto by the screw 6. The angle 6 is somewhat shorter than the distance between the inside of the upright member B of the honey frame. A clip 1.0 is provided at either end of the upper leg of the angle 6 to permit ready adjustment of the space between the upright members of' said honey frame. Said clip 10 is preferably. made of spring material'sothat it will positively engage said angle and serve as a positive stop. Theangle dis provided with slots 6 at either end thereof and adapted to receive the adjustable guide member 7 which holds the upright members B of the honey frame against the clip 10. Said adjustable guidemember? is provided with the gradually rounded guide portion '7 to facilitate the introduction of the upright meni bers B between said guide member 7 and said clip 10. Said guide member 7 is further provided with a slot 7* adapted to receive the screw 9 and at the same time be shiftable thereon. A washer 8 is interposed between the head of the screw ,9 and the face of the adjustable guide member 7 and the angle 6 to retain said guide member.
Said screw 9 is provided with a nut 9 to relieve, adjust and clamp said guide member as desired. The grip arms 11, provided with right angled gripping portionsll at their extreme ends are adapted to grip the.
upright members B of the honey frame. Said grip arms 11 are reciprocably mounted in slots 2 in the front face ofsaid upright member 2. Said grip arms are 'pivotally mounted on and secured to the lever 13 by the pins 12. Said lever is also pivotally mounted in a recess 2 in said upright memher 2 on the bolt 14 secured in said member 2. Said lever 13 extends through the table member 1 and is provided in said extended end with'a' s1ot13 adapted to receive theoperating arn'i 16' therein. The pivot bolt 15gis secured on 'the under side and back portion of said' 'ta'ble member by the nut 15,
screwed;- thereon. The operating arm 16 is provided atits rear end with a lug 16* and pivoted on the bolt 15and secured thereon by the nut 15'. Said operating arm is adapted to ride on the quadrant 17 and adapted tober'eceived by the notches 17 therein. A. portion of said operating arm extends beyond said quadrant for gripping.

A support 18, preferably made out of sheet metal, as shown in Fig. l of the drawings, is provided at one end of said table member 1. A slot 2 is provided in said table member to annex one leg of said support, the other leg being bent around the bottom face of said table member. Thus it may be seen that the member 18 is self supporting and may be removed from said table member as desired. A crank 19 is revolubly mounted in said support and is prevented from becoming free from said support by a loop 19 bent in said wire between said legs of said support. A handle 19 is provided at one end of said, crank and a hook portion 19 is provided at its other end so that the light wire which is generally used in wiring honey frames is readily and easily bent around said hook portion and said handle 19* given a few turns will form a loop at the end of said wire.
The nails F are preferably driven into the upright membersB of thev honey frame before assembling with the other members A and D. The assembled honey frame is placed in the machine as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings and the operating arm is shifted to the right thus clamping and securing said. frame. at the same time. contracting and warping the upright members B thereof. The loop is then twisted on the end of the wire as described above and hooked over the hooks F F F and F respectively and then back to the hook F twisted, and cut 0E. 1
It is obvious that when relieving the strain on the upright members B by shifting the operating arm to the left thewires previously strung become taut.
The upright members B are provided with holes B so that the wire may be strung in said frame as shown in Fig. 7 of the drawings. The adjustable guide member 7 and the gripping arm 11 are so spaced and constructed that they will not interfere with holes B for said other means of wiring.
It is therefore obvious that my apparatus is applicable to either and other methods of wiring the honey frame.
Though, I have shown and described particular construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions 1 do not wish to be limited to. this particular con.- struction, combination and. arrangement but desire to include in the scope of my invention the construction, combination and arrangement substantially asset forth in the appended claims.

including a table member, an upright member secured at a right angle thereto, a positioning member secured to said table member at the base of said upright member, adjustable guide and retaining means secured at the upper part of the front face of said upright member, and means for simultaneously gripping and contracting both of the normally vertical members of a honey frame supported by said guide and retaining means.
2. A honey frame assembling apparatus, including a table member, an upright member secured to the top face of said table member and substantially at a right angle thereto, a positioning member secured to said table and said upright members atthe base of the latter, spacers secured to said positioning member, an angle secured to the upper part of the front face of said upright member, clips secured to each end of said angle for spacing the vertical members of honey frames, adjustable guides secured to said angle, gripping arms reciprocably mounted in said upright member for gripping and contracting the vertical members of said honey frames, a lever pivotally secured to said gripping arms and pivotally mounted in said upright member, an operating arm pivotally mounted on the under side of said table member and engaging the extended portion of said lever and a quadrant provided with notches adapted to engage said operating arm.

A honey frame assembling apparatus, including a table member, an upright member secured to the top face of said table member and substantially at a right angle thereto, a positioning member secured to said table and said upright members at the base of the latter, spacers secured to said positioning member, an angle secured to the upper part of the front face of said upright member, clips secured to each end of said angle for spacing the vertical members of the honey frames, adjustable guides secured to said angle gripping arms reciprocably mounted in said upright member for gripping and contracting the vertical members of said honey frames, a lever pivotally secured to said gripping arms and pivotally mounted in said upright member, an operating arm pivotally mounted on the under side of said table member and engaging the extended portion of said lever, a quadrant provided with notches adapted to engage said operating arm, and a means for twisting a loop at one end of a Wire for Wiring said honey frame.

In an apparatus of the class described, a table member, an upright member secured on the upper side of said table member, a positioning member secured to said table member contiguous to the base of said upright member, retaining means secured at the opposite ends of the upper portion of saidupright member on the front face thereof and contracting members pivotally mounted on the front face of said upright member intermediate the top and bottom sides thereof. e

In an apparatus of the class described, a table member, an upright member secured on the upper side of said table mem ber, a positioning member secured to said table member contiguous to the base of said upright member, retaining means secured at the opposite ends of the upper portion of said upright member on the front face thereof, contracting members pivotally mounted on the front face of said upright member intermediate the top and bottom sides thereof and lever and quadrant means for operating and securing said contracting members in certain positions.
6. In an apparatus of the class described,

a table member, an upright member secured on the upper side of said table member, a positioning member secured to said table member contiguous to the base of said upright member, retaining means secured at the opposite ends of the upper portion ofsaid upright member on the front face thereof, contracting members pivotally mounted on the front face of said upright member intermediate the top and bottom sides thereof, lever'and quadrant means for operating and securing said contracting members in certain positions and means secured to said upright member contiguous to the table -member'for spacing purposes.
8. A honey frame assembling apparatus,
including a horizontal member, a vertical .member secured thereto and extending longitudinally therewith above the same, positioning members'secured to said horizontal member near its opposite ends, positioning members secured to said vertical member near its upper side near its ends and lever operated contracting means positioned intermediate said positioning means on said horizontal vmember and said upright member. 9. A honey frame assembling apparatus, including a horizontal member, a vertical member secured thereto and extending longitudinally therewith above the same, positioning members secured to said horizontal member near its opposite ends, positioning members secured to said vertical member near its upper side near its ends,
