SHOW STALL FOR CATTLE.
To all whom it ma concern:
Be it known t at 1, ROBERT J. AoKnR- MAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin 'andt State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements inS-how Stalls for Cattle; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will en.-
able others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. 7
Thi'sinvention relates to a show stall for cattle and is particularly designed for use at fairs and animal shows. These shows are now usually held in buildings of large capacity and which are used for other purposes during-the greater part of the year. It is becoming more and more customary also to use fair ground buildings for various purposes during the period that the fair is not being held. This being the case, there is a great demand for an efiicient show stall which can be temporarily put in place and which can easily be removed when its use is no longer desired.
One object of the present invention, therefore, is to provide show stalls which can be quickly installed in a building and which will be eflicient in use the-rein during the period that their presence is necessary.
It is another object of the invention to provide such a stall or system of stalls having great flexibility.
It is a further object of the invention to provide such a stall that can be readily taken down and one, the parts of which will occupy a comparatively small space when packed for transportation. Such a stall can thus be taken from one place to another and invention will appear as the description pro:
ceeds in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which like reference characters refer to the same parts throughout the different views, and in which- Fig. 1 is a perspective view of one of a row of stalls in assembled position;

Referring to the drawings, each stall is of duplex form adapted to accommodate animals facing in opposite directions andcomprises end portions A and central or intermediate portions B. The stall is held rigidly in-place on the floor by means of base plates 1 which are disposed at each side of'each end. portion which have holdingor foundation screws or bolts 2 extending therethrough' and engaging suitable anchoring devices 3 of any desired nature which are firmly fixed in the floor or supporting surface.
Disposed centrally at each end of each stall are the posts 4. These posts set firmly onthe supporting surface and have base members 5 adjustably secured thereto byset screws 6, or some such suitable means. Disposed above the members 5 on the post 4 in spaced relation are the clamping members]. One of these members is located just adjacent the member 5, while the other is located at a distance above the same to determine the height of the end portions of the stall.
Between the members 7 on posts l are a plurality of spaced clamping members 13. The stalls are designed to be arranged in continuous rows, and when. such a row is. to be used, the members 13 are made in the manner shown in Fig. 4. In this figure is shown the pipe 4: and clamping members 8 secured at opposite sides thereof by means of nu-tted bolts 9. These clamping members are suitably spaced at each side of pipe 4 to embrace the members 10 which constitute the longitudinal partition of the central member B. Preferably, these members are made of strong wooden planks and metal strips 11 are secured at each side of these planks to be embraced by the clamping members 8. Channel members 12 are shown as secured between the members 11 at the end portions of the members-10. These channel members are-riveted, or otherwise firmly secured to the members 11 at the projecting ends thereof. This constitutes a rugged and secure structure for the ends of the partition and prevents the ends of the planks from being split, or otherwise damaged, As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the members 10 extend between posts 4: and intermediate of the posts, the members. 10 are also joined together by additional members 14 in the form of strips and which are securely fastened to the members 10 by bolts or rivets 15. The members 14 will be sufficient in number to insure that the stall will be amply strong for the purpose desired. The hitching rings 16 are secured, either to the strips 14: or to the members 10, at a height convenient for the animal being tethered. These hitching rings are, of course, disposed on each side of the partition formed by members 10 and while three are shown for each stall, it will be understood that their number may be varied as desired. The rings are secured to the partition by yokes 17 firmly secured to the partition by bolts or rivets.
As shown, the posts 4 extend some distance above the end portions of the stall and have knob members 18 secured thereto at their upper ends. Between the knob members and the top of the partition, are bars 19 extending between posts 4 and secured thereto by split clamping means 20 which are fastened to the posts 4 by the nutted bolts 21. A bracing member 22 extends between the lower of the members 19 at the center thereof and the central part of the partition, and is fastened by means of forked members 23 secured on member 22 by bolts 24.
The clamping members 7 which, as shown in Fig. 2, are also made in two parts connected by nutted bolts 25 are adapted to receive pipe members 26 and 27 which extend in opposite directions therefrom at right angles to the central partition. Suitably spaced at each end of the stall are the posts 28. These posts also have base members 5 secured thereto by set screws 6, which base members are adapted to seat firmly upon the plates 1. The posts 28 also have thereon adjacent to the base members 5, clamping members 7*. The clamping members receive in one side thereof pipes or bars 27, and in the opposite side, the bars or pipes 29. The posts 28 have separable elbow clampingmembers 30 at their upper ends secured thereto by nutted bolts 31." which are arranged to receive the pipes 26. Below the elbow members 30 on the post 28 are disposed other separable clamping members 32 held thereon by nutted bolts 33 and which are arranged to receive at their outer side the bars or pipes 34. These members 34 constitute guard rails and extend outwardly a distance from the post 28 and are bent to have vertical post portions 35, and these portions have base portions 5 secured at their lower ends by set screws 6, which base portions are also adapted to firmly seat on the plates 1. Above and adjacent the base members 5", the members 85 have secured thereto the separable clamping members 36 secured by nutted bolts 37 and which receive the ends of bars or pipes 29.
Solid members 40, preferably formed of metal plate, are disposed in the rectangular opening formed between the posts 4 and 28 and the posts 26 and 27. These members 10 are held in place by a plurality of spaced clamping members 41 secured thereto and to the post 28 by nutted bolts 12. The members are also held in position by similar clamping members 43 secured thereto and to the bars 26 and 27 by nutted bolts 44.
The use and operation of the stall will be apparent from the above description. The animals are tethered to the ring 16 and face the central partition. The animals on either side of the partition are unable to see each other and the metal plates 4.0 at the ends of the stall will prevent the animals from coming in contact with each other in any degree and the spread of disease by such contact will thus be prevented.
The various posts and bars used in the stall can be made, either from solid rods, or of ordinary iron piping. It will be noted that all of the joints are formed of separable clamping members. These, thus constitute one form of slip joint and various and de sired adjustments of the parts may be quickly and easily made. This results in a struc ture of great flexibility and one in which the parts do not have to be previously accurately aligned and fitted together. It also provides a device which can be quickly accommodated to different locations and which can be firmly and securely installed therein. It will also be noted that the base members 5, 5 and 5 can be suitably adjusted to secure firm hearings on their supported surfaces, to which they are firmly secured by bolts 6 As previously stated, the central partition member is preferably of wooden construction. Tethered animals have a characteristic of charging or butting into the partition in front of them and the wooden partition forms a member with some give and resiliency and also constitutes a member which will make less noise under these circumstances. The end members 40, as stated are preferably of metal plate to provide a complete and absolute isolation of the adjoining animal for hygienic purposes.
It will be understood that various changes in the specific form and arrangement and details of applicants device may be made without departing from the scope of his invention, which, generally stated, consists in the matter shown and described and set forth in the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
1. A demountable show stall for animals having in combination central upstanding main posts, spaced auxiliary posts arranged at each side of said main posts in a line normal to that connecting the said main posts, a solid. partition extending between said main posts and secured thereto, horizontal members connectin said main and auxiliary posts substantia y at the height of said partition, horizontal members connecting said main and auxiliary posts adjacent the bottom thereof, and solid panels extending between said auxiliary posts, main posts and horizontal members on each side of said central partition.
2. A show stall for cattle having in combination a central partition, main posts at each end thereof for supporting the same, a pair of auxiliary posts at each side of each of the main posts and arranged in lines normal to said central partition, adjustable base members secured to the bottom of said auxiliary osts, plate members extending between eadh pair of auxiliary posts to which said base members are secured, and means for securing said plates to the floor or other supporting surface.
3. A stall for cattle having in combination spaced central main posts, a central partition extending therebetween, auxiliary posts spaced from said main posts and horizontal members connecting said auxiliary posts to said main posts at the top and bottom of said auxiliary posts to form a rectangular structure at each end of the central partition which is normal thereto, a solid partition carried in said rectangular structure, detachable means for securing the central partition to the main posts and detachable means for securing the solid end partition to said rectangular structure.
4. A show stall structure for cattle comprising a plurality of central posts, partitions extending between each pair of central posts, means for detachably securing said partitions to said central posts, a pair of auxiliary posts at each side of each of said central posts arranged in a line normal to the line connecting said central posts, transverse partitions carried by the auxiliary posts adjacent to the central posts, adjustable base members connected to the bottom ortion of the auxiliary posts, a plate mem er connecting each pair of auxiliary posts to which said base members are secured, and means for securing said plates to a floor or other supporting surface.
5. A demountable structure for show stalls for cattle comprising a plurality of aligned central posts, central partitions extending between each pair of central posts and detachably comiected thereto, parallel bars extended between said central posts above said central partitions, the lower one of which is connected thereto substantially centrally thereof, transverse partitions extending normal to said central partitions at each side of said central posts, auxiliary posts at the end of said transverse partitions, horizontal members connecting said auxiliary posts and central posts to which the transverse partitions are detachably secured, guard rails having vertical post portions extending from said transverse partitions, and adjustable means for securing said central and auxiliary posts and the vertical portions of said guardrails to the floor or other supporting surface' 6. A demountable show stall for cattle having in combination, spaced main posts, channel members secured to the adjacent sides thereof, a panel partition received in and secured in said channel members, vertical auxiliary posts spaced from each of said main posts transversely of said partition, spaced horizontal members connecting said main posts to said auxiliary posts, solid panels secured between said main and auxiliary posts and said horizontal members, horizontal bars extending from said auxiliary posts adjacent the bottom thereof in line with the lower of said first mentioned horizontal members, vertical guard rails extending from the outer ends of said last mentioned horizontal bars having their upper ends thereof curved and connected to said auxiliary posts adjacent the top thereof.
7. A demountable show stall for cattle having end ortions, each comprising three spaced vertical members connected by top and bottom horizontal members, solid panels removably bolted between said vertical and horizontal members, base members on said vertical members adapted to be attached to a supporting surface, and a solid panel partition secured to and extending between the central vertical members.
8. A demountable show stall for cattle having in combination vertical spaced central posts, a solid panel wooden partition secured thereto and extending therebetween, spaced horizontal bars secured to and extending between said posts above said partition, a vertical member secured to and extending between the lower of said horizontal bars and said partition, auxiliary posts disposed transversely at each side of said central posts, top and bottom horizontal members connecting said central and auxiliary posts, solid metal panels secured between said central and auxiliary posts and said horizontal members horizontal members extending from said auxiliary posts in alinement with said bottom horizontal members, vertical posts forming guard rails extending from the ends of said last mentioned horizontal members and having curved upper ends connected to said auxiliary posts, adjustable attaching base members secured to the bottom of all of said vertical posts, all of said members being detachably bolted together.
