Be it known that I, HARM FoLxnRs, a citizen of the United States, residing at. Austinville, in the county of Butler and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hayrack and Wagon-Box Lifters, of which the following is a specification.

In carrying out the present invention, it is my purpose to provide a highly improvedv Y form of structure, whereby hay racks and wagon boxes may be removed from or applied to their respective supporting vehicles.

The primary object of the invention resides in the provision of such a device that is extremely simple of construction, and efcient and positive in operation, the invention also embracing the desired features of durability and rigidity. Y

The nature and advantages of the invention will be better understood when the following detailed description is read in connection with the accompanying drawings,

Referring to the drawings in detail, my invention comprises a substantially square shaped open frame of suitable height, designated generally 5. This frame comprises vertical corner posts 6 and longitudinal and transverse connecting bars 7 and 8, respectively, these cross bars being braced with respect to the corner posts 6, through the medium of connecting rods 9.

`Journaled between adjacent corner posts 6 beneath one of the transverse bars 8 is a shaft 10, one end thereof being equipped with a bevelled gear 11 that meshes with a bevelled gear 12 upon a vertical shaft 18. As more clearly shown in Figure 1, this shaft 13 is supported in bearings 14 upon the adjacent corner post 6, the lower end thereof being also equipped with a bevelled 192e. smal no. eaaaeo."

gear 141.- that is in mesh with a bevelled gear 15 upon a stub shaft 16. This stub shaft 16 is journ'aled within a bearing 17 formed upon one end of an arm 18, that is secured to said post. The stub shaft 16 is provided with a crank handle 19, wherebythe same may be rotated.

Connected at one end to the shaft 1() is a pair of cables 20, while also connected at one end to the shaft 10 and outwardly of the said cables 20 are other cables 21, these last mentioned cables extending forwardly as shown in Figure 2 and engaged over pulleys 22 that are loose upon a stationary cross shaft 23. The lower ends of each of the cables 20 and 21 are equipped with hooks 24, Figure 3, that `engage through openings 25 in the oppositeend's of cross bars 26, these'cross bars adapted to be positioned beneath a hay rack or wagon box A. In view of the above description, it will at once be apparent that when the bars 26 are positioned beneath the hay rack or wagon box, the stub shaft 16 is rotated for consequently rotating the cross shaft 10 and winding the cables 20 and 21 thereon for effectively lifting the said hay rack or wagon box. A

rIhe advantage of a device of this character will be readily appreciated by those skilled in the art,l and even though I have herein shown and described the most practical embodiment of. the invention with which'I am at present familiar, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made therein ywithout, departing from the spirit andscope of the invention as claimed.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

A wagon box lifter comprising posts xed at points, said posts being arranged in pairs, the posts of each pair being spaced from each other, cross barsk mounted/upon the posts.A of each pair and bracing the same between the posts, other bars interposed between the pairs of posts and the first men-i tioned cross bars, a shaft connected at its ends with the last mentioned bars, pullejiT blocks mounted upon the said shaft and movable longitudinally thereof, a shaft journaled for rotation in the members of one of the pairs of posts and bridging the space between the said posts, means mounted upon one of the posts and adapted to` be manually operated for rotating the last mentioned shaft, a set of cables connected With the last mentioned shaft and adapted to Wind thereon and having end portions depending therefrom, a bar detaehably conneeted with the free ends of the said cables and bridging the space between the said cables, other cables connected with the last mentioned shaft and rirramged to Wind 10 free ends of the last mentioned cables and 15 bridging the spacebetween them.
