To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, ADAM ANDREGK and FRANK RUBozYNsnI, both `citizens of the Republic of Poland, and both residents of the city of Toronto, in the Province of Ontario and Dominion of Canada, have in-v vented certain new and useful mprovements in Cue Holders, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in cue holders, and more particularly to suspension holders for billiard cues and the like, in which the weight of the cue operates the holder to retain the cue the-rein, and the objects of the invention are to provide simple, inexpensive and practical nieans of this kind that will retain the cues neatly in a hanging position and prevent them warping i by reason of the above-mentioned fact that f for using metal cases or the like to they are practically sustained in the cue holder by their own weight.

A further object, therefore, isto provide a oue holder that will obviate the necessity k put away cues in and keep themstraight.

A still further object is 'to vprovide a cue holder of this character that can be looked when the cue is in position.

It is a well known fact that, in the ordinary clip racks now, more or less, in general use, the cues in a short time become bent or warped due to the natural shrinking of the wood, making it impossible to play accurately with them. Our invention, on the other hand, while embodying the simplicity of the ordinary rack, at the same time combines with it the advantages of themetal case in preventing warping at pra-cltically no additional cost. v f

lVith the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists essentially of a slotted plate or strip of metal formed with an intermediate ledge and having a pair of operatively mounted gripping members provided with hinged arms designed to be held in interlocked position by a pin or spindle therethrough extending through the slot in the plate, Whereby the holder is slidably mounted to opera-te the ,c ;rippingv members to open or close on the holder being moved, respectively, upwardly and downwardly, pivoted cam means ou the `slotted plate whereby the upward anddownward movement of the holder is controlled and whereposii having enlarged ends 16.

Referring to the drawings':

A is the cue holder of any suitable material and is here shown as comprising a metal strip or plate narrowed from, approximately, the centre upwards rat 11 to form a slid'eway provided with a vertically extending recess or slot 12 therein. Adjacent to the bottom of vthe slot 12 is the ledge or rest 18 formed integral with the plate` member 10 by folding over the lower end thereof on itself and hending the extremity outwardly. This form of construction is the vone illustrated but we do not confine ourselves to it, and the ledge 13 may be formed in `any other suitable or convenient manner.

In the folded lower end of themember 10, as here shown, is mounted a, bar, or pin 111 outwardlybent at right angles at 15 and 17 are gripping members partly S-Shaped loosely mounted on the bent ends 15 and hingedly connected at their opposite ends to the operating arms 18 which, in turn, are adapted to overlap each other at 19 and to receive therethrough in this position a securing spindle or pinn 20v designed to extend into a wall or other support through the slot 12 whereby the cue holder is suspended. i v p 21 is a pivotallyv mounted cam inember adjacent to the slot 12- aud formed'with a ledge or shoulder 22 adapted to engage with the spindle 20, as hereinafter more fully desoribed, to look a cue in the holder and to retain the gripping members in open position to receive the cue. 23 is an ordinary billiard cue and 24 is a lining of leather or' other suitable material for the gripping members 17 to prevent said `members from marking the eue.r i

i The cam 21 may be provided With suitable spring means or may be made in any suitable form, and 'after it is released in the Operation which is described from the position as shown in Figure 3, it is swung around to assume the position shown in Figure 1.
