CULTIVATOR.
Application filed December Q2, 1921. Serial N'ox524,'074.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, J on JEMELKA, a citizen of the United States of America, re-
siding at Moulton, in the county of Lavaca and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cultivators, of whichthe following is a specification.
This imentionrelates to certain new and useful improvements in cultivators and has particular reference -to an, adjustable cultivator plow.
The primary object of the invention resides in the provision of a cultivatorhaving a plow-longitudinally adjustable with respect to the mounting beam and also capable of vertical lateral and angular adjustments to vary the position of the cultivator plow point.
A further object of the invention-has referen'ce-to a cultivator wherein the plow member is vertically adjustable with relation to the mounting thereior with the mountingembodying independently operatingmembers for adjusting the angularity 'andlateralpositions of the plow point.
Withthese general objects in viewxand others that will appear a-sthe nature "ofthe invention is better understood, the same consists of the novel iorm, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter morefully 1n the accompanying described, shown drawing andclaime'd.
In the drawiir wherein like reference characters designate corresponding parts througl-ioutthe several views,
Figure l is a front elevational View, partially in section of a cultivator plowand mounting constructed in ZiCCOltlEHlCO with the present invention,
Figure 2 is a fragmentary side 'elevational view, partly in section,
Figure 4 is a horizontal sectional view taken on line IV-IV of Fig. 1 showing the pivotal connection between the plow support and mounting, and the nut for vertically adjusting the plow, and
Figure '5 is an elevational view or the bracket for supporting the plow;
Referring more in detailto the accompanying drawing there is illustrated a r'rame baror beam lot a cultivator frame adapted to support a cultivator plow through the medium of a perpendicular bracket plate 2 fixed to an arm associated with the beam 1. A mounting for the bracket plate 2includes a tubular bearing 3 surrounded by asleeve 4 having a reduced end 5 for receiving a rigidly inounted laterally directed arm'6. The bracket plate 2 carries an angularly directed side arm 7 havinga side opening slot 8 in the outer end thereof, the bracket plate 2 being provided with an opening I} adjacent the lower end thereof to bereceived on the shouldered end 5 of the sleeve 4, a lock screwbolt -10 carried-by'the outer-end of the arm -6rcceiving the slotted end '8 of the bracket plate arm 7 for rigidly connecting the arms 6 and? together. A locking bolt 11 extending through the tubular bearing 23 carries a washer '12 tor securing the sleeve t in proper position upon the bearing 3. tl'liackle bolts 12 enclose the sleeve 4 as shown in Fig. 1 and are associated with strap bearings I3 arranged atopposite sides of the beam 1 for rigidly mounting the bracket plate 2 audits support upon the beam.
The supporting means for the fplow point embodies a perpendicular plate 14 flatly engaging the outer ime of the bracket plate 2, the same "being pivotally supported on the bolt ll-as -shown in Fig. 4 and constituting an integral partof the tubular bearing 3. To pivotallyniovc the plate 14 and'bearing 3 upon the bolt 11, a screw block 15 is secured to'the upper end of the plate Liand extends 'rearwardly through the slotted opening'lG in the upper end or the bracketplateQQ'thebracket plat-e, adjacent theen'dsoil the slotted opening beingprovided with brackets 17 constituting journal bearings for the ends of the screw 18 that is associated with the screwblock 15, the screw 18 being provided with a crank handle 19 for rotatiiigthe same and shifting the screw block in opposite directions, thereby causing a pivotal movement of the perpendicularplate 14.
The direct mounting for the cultivator plow includes outwardly directed arms 20 and 21 carriedby the platela and respectively positioned below and above the pivot point of the plate, an adjusting nut 22' being positionedbetween the arms 20 and 21 "and carrying a sectional operating ring 23 "to facilitate manipulation thereof. The cultivator plow embodies a point 24 carried by a screw standard 25 that projects through the arms and 21 and upon which the nut 22 is threaded.
To vertically adjust the plow 2 l-and to prevent rotation thereof, the screw standard 25 of the plow is provided with opposite side grooves 26 while a disk nut 27 resting upon the upper arm 21 carries inwardly direct d keys 28 extending into the shalt groove, the disk nut 27 being retained en position by the overhanging end 21 oi the arm 21 as clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 3. To rotate the shaft standard of the plow point 24, the disk nut 27 carries a side extension 29 slotted at its outer end as shown in Figs. 1 and 3 and into which slotted end the pin 30 of the screw block 31 extends, the screw block being supported on the screw 32 journaled at its ends in brackets 33 carried by the plate 14 while the crank handle 34 upon the screw 32 permits operation thereof.
Assuming that the screw standard 25 of the plow is in a perpendicular position, and it being desired to vary the angularity thereof. the screw shaft 13 is rotated in the desired direction causing a pivotal movement of the plate 14's carrying the plow shaft for moving the same either forwardly or rearwardly. When it is desired to any the height of the plow with respect to the beam 1, the nut 22 is rotated in the desired direction through the medium of the ring 23, the standard 25 being raised or lowered and prevented from rotation with respect to the nut 22 by the disk nut 27 and the screw block 31. 7
To rotate the standard of the plow point 24, the screw 32 is rotated in the desired direction, causing movement of the disk nut 27 which correspondingly rotates the plow standard 25.
From the above detail description of the device it is believed that the construction and operation thereof will at once be apparent, and while there is herein shown and de scribed the preferred embodiment ot the present invention it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope thereof.
