LAMr GLOBE.
Application filed October 9, 1922. Serial No. 593,271
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, S11: KONG LUT, a citizen of the United States. residing at Honolulu, in the Territory of Hawaii, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lamp Globes, of'which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to lamp globes, and has for one of its objects to produce a device of this character constructed of a plurality of separable portions whereby a broken portion may be restored without discardin the unbroken portions.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character constructed of a plurality of separable portions whereby portions of various forms, colors and designs ma be united. Y
nother object of the invention is to provide a device of this character comprising upper and lower portions and an intermediate portion to which the upper and lower portions are detachably coupled.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction as hereinafter shown and described and then specifically pointed out in the claims, and in the drawings illustrative of the preferred embodiment of the inventionz- Figure 1 is a side elevation, partly in section.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged sectional detail on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Filg. 3 is a detached perspective view ofone of the clips whereby the lower portion is coupled to the intermediate portion.
Fig. 4 is a view similar to Fig. 2, illustrating a modification in the construction.
The improved device comprises in general a lower member 10, an upper or hood porsented as a whole at 12. sented as a whole at 12.
The lower portion 10 is closed at the bottom, and may be provided with a downwardly depending ornament of any desired character indicated at 13.
At its upper'edge the lower member 10 is preferably ofi'set laterally as at 14: and with an annular rim 15 rising from the offset, and with a plurality of clip devices 16 attached to the rim and rising above the same as shown.
At its upper edge the upper or hood portion 11 is outturned as indicated at 17 to be engaged by the clamp screws usually employed to secure globes to lamp sockets, and with its lower rim portion preferably threaded as shown at 18.
The intermediate annular member 12 is formed with its outer upper edge rolled over as shown at 19 to form an outstanding rib over which clip devices 16, attached to the rim 15 engage as shown, to suspend the lower member from the annular portion.
.The inner face of the annular member is threaded as shown to receive the threaded portion 18 of the upper or hood portion 11.
By this simple means the member 12 forms a coupling means between the lower portion and the hood portion and may be disconnected from either, as required, to change from one form or style of hood or lower portion to another, or to restore a broken or impaired part without the necessity of discarding the unbroken portions. The intermediate portion 12 will preferably be spun up irom a single strip of metal, as indicated in n Fig. 4 a slight modification is shown in the construction consisting in constructing the portion 11 with an unthreaded downwardly directed annular rim 18' corresponding to the annular rim 18, and an intermediate annular member 12 corresponding to the annular member 12, formed with spaced sides with the depending member 18' extending between the sides of the member 12 the two parts of the member 12 and the annular member 18 being secured together by rivets, one of which is shown at 20.
The improved device is simple in construction, can be manufactured of any size and of any suitable material, and of any fanciful or ornamental design or configuration.
The preferred embodiment of the invention is disclosed in the drawings and set forth in the specification, but it will be understood that modifications within the scope of the claimed invention may be made in the construction without departing from the principle of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is 1. In a lamp globe, a lower portion having an upstanding annular rim, an annular coupling member having spaced vertical sides and disposed within the rim of the lower portion, means for connecting one side of the coupling member to the rim of said lower portion, an upper portion adapted to be ena the lower portion, means for connecting one gaged with a globe supporting device and having a downwardly directed rim, and means for coupling the rim of the upper portion to the other spaced side of the coupling member.
2. In a lamp globe, a lower portion ha"- ing an upstanding annular rim, an annular coupling member having spaced vertical sides With one side portion screw threaded and disposed Within the upturned rim of porting device and having a downwardly directed r1111 screw threaded to engage the screw threaded portion of the coupling member.
In testimony whereof, I afiix my signature hereto.
