Description

A. H. WHISNER NURSING BOTTLE HOLDER Jan. 15, 1924.
Filed Feb. 20, 1925 INveNToR R E N AIN H W H. N E L L A irrite ALLEN HAMMOND WHISNER, 0F GIBSQNVILLEfNOB/TH CAROLINA.
NURSING-BOTTLE HOLDER. l`
.application filed February 20', 1923. Serial No. 620,225.
T0 all 'whom t may concern:
f Be it known that I, ALLEN H. WrrrsNER, a citizen of the United States, vresiding at Gibsonville, in the county of Guilford and State of 'North Carolina, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Nursing-Bottle Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in holders for nursing bottles, and it has for its objects among others to provide a simple, cheap, yet efficient mechanical device bv means of which the nursing bottle may be supported in such position that the infant may conveniently nurse While' lying upon its back, the device being such that it cannot easily be upset, may be folded up when not in use, and one in which the bottle when in use will be securely held in an inclined position.
It has for afurther object to adapt the holder to yany style of nursing bottle, the bottle being easily inserted and removed, the holding members having suiiicient resiliency also to admit of some movement ofthe bottle in the hand of the infant, yet stiff enough to maintain their form and to retain the bottle.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will hereinafter appear and the novel features thereof will be specifically defined by the appended claims.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with the numerals of reference marked thereon, form a part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 is an elevation of my improved holder as in use, the nursing bottle being shown in dotted lines.
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the holder.
Figure 8 is an enlarged perspective view of a portion of the body showing one of the spring clips.
Like numerals of reference indicate like parts throughout the several views.
My holder in its preferred form is constructed preferably, although notnecessarily, of coppered wire so as to be practically germ proof. In its preferred form it is composed of three pieces hinged one to another, and each piece preferably made of a single pieceof material.
Referring to the drawings,
1 designates one of such pieces which constitutes the body of the device, the said piece being folded upon itself and forming a loop 2 at one end of such body, and a i loop '3 at the other end, the portion betweenl theloops being twisted, as shown. One end of the wire forming the body is bent down-y ward through the loop2 and inclined toward the other end, as seen at 4, and thence formed into a -coil or preferably -a plurality of 'coils 5, as seenbest in Figure l1, which coils are adapted to-receive and resiliently hold the bottom endk of the bottle 6, as indicatedby dotted lines in Figure 1. 'The other endof the wire forming the body is extended downwardly through the loop 3 and in an inclined direction terminating in a coil 8 which is adapted to receive and hold the nipple end 9 of the bottle. Y
The inclined portion lof the wire is seen at 7 in Figures 1 and 3. Intermediate the coil 8 and the loop 3 this end of the wire forming the body is given an outward and under and upward curvature, as seen at 10, to engage the sides and bottom of the bottle, the coil 8 pressing upward against the nipple at the rim of the bottle, and all together holding the bottle securely in a downwardly inclined position.
provide the body with front and rear legs which are made substantially alike with the exception that the hind legs are longer and the hind feet stand farther apart. The hind legs 11 comprise the spread-apart portions 12 formed by a single piece of wire, the ends of the wire being bent around the transverse portion of the loop 2, as seen at 13, so as to form a hinge, permitting the legs 11 to be folded beneath the body 1, as seen in dotted lines in Figure 1, when the device is not in use. The hind legs are provided with a return bend 14 between the feet 12, as seen clearly in Figure 2, which stiffens the device and adds to its safety.
The front legs are similar in all respects to the hind legs. having the feet 15 and the return bend 10 between such feet, as Seen in Figure 2, these legs being shorter and not spread sofar apart as those of the hind le fs.
vgAt the joints between the legs and the loops at the ends of the body 1 the ends of the wires forming the legs are extended, as seen at 17 and 18, so as to reach down over and straddle the top of the body, these ends being crossed, as seen best in Figure 2, and provided with depressions, as seen at 19 and 20, Figure 2, on theirv inner surfaces to hold the device with the legs securely held in position, as seen in Jr'ull lines in Figure 1. lNhen not in use these spring snaps readily release their hold on the body l, and as both the front and hind legs are alike jointed to the body they both can -be folded upbeneath the body, as seen in dotted lines in Figure l.
Figure 1 shows the devic-eas in use. The front feet are designed to rest upon the bed on either side of the childs neclr,:there being no pressure Whatever upon the child; the hind legs rest upon the bed on either side of the childs limbs, and the'bottle is held in an inclined vposition Which may be varied as desired, by raisingvor lowering the front or back coils. In addition to add'- ing .to the comfort of the child, it saves the busy mother many hours of Lvaluable time.
The device provides a special safety lfeature inthe low bow over the childls limbs, which may be drawn back so that a garment may be laid over it to anchor it in position. Infact, a Warm vvrap-y may be laid over the Whole device in rough out-of-door conditions to keep the little hands and kbottle Warm, without in the least interfering with the childs nursing.
Modifications in detail may be .resorted to Without departing from the spirit of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages.
What I claim as new is l. A nursing bottle holder comprising a body portion, leds at opposite ends thereof and means movable with the legs' and en gageable With the body portion to hold the legs in extended position.
2. A ynursing bottle holder comprising a body portion, legs at opposite ends thereof and means movable with the legs and engageablge with thebOdy portion to hold the legs in extended position, and bottle-holding means on the body portion.
3. A nursing bottleholder comprising a body pi'ortion with' `legs Vat yopposite ends thereof, the legsat one end-being longer than those at the opposite end, means movf,
able with the legs to engage and hold the body portion in fixed relation tothe legs, and bottle-holding means on-"thebody portion.
4f.y A nursing bottle holder comp=rising5a body portion With a loop ateaeh-end, the ends of the material formingthe body portion being extended through said loops and formed into kcoils to receiveand hold opposite ends.' ofabottle.
5. A nursing bottle holder comprisinga body portion looped at its ends and'having bottle receiving coils, vand legs yhinged-lyI connected with said .loops and having their ends extended to form spring clamps to-engage the body portion;-1 Y
Intestimony whereof I aiix'my signature.
