INVENTOR Mlm ,4 from/EVS.
:To it ma it known that I, HENRY Percival. 6 3121x011, a citizeA of -esident of Los Angeles,
lthe front andV provided Patented] '1924.
1,480,817 PATENT OFFICE.
mY PEBCI'VAL DIXON, 0l' 'LOB ANGEIJB, CALIFORNIA. DIS-A I'PEBING IRON'ING BOARD.
the United States, and in the county `of Los An eles and State of California, have invente' new and useful Improvements in a VDisappearing Ironin Board, of which the following is a speci cation.
. The present invention relates to a-combine'd ironing board and cabinet, and has for its primary object the provision of an improved form of mounting, whereby the board may be adjusted to two heights The vstructure herein disclosed is of the character'in. which theblower pane] of the cabinet is hinged to th'board'i' serves as a strut. lIn addition to the broader objects of this invention, there are certain details of structure, whereby, rst, a permanent fastening between the ironing board and the lower panel of the cabinet, the latter being hinged to the cabinet frame, is secured; and sec-4 ond, a fastening means is provided which is readily adjustable to aselected height by the user of the board.
With the above mentioned object and .other objects and corresponding accomplishzments in view, the invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts ,hereinafter described, illustrated in the ac,- companying drawin s and pointed out in the subjoined claims. o more full comprehend the invention, reference is irected to the accompanying drawin disclosing one form of my invention, an in which:
Fig. 1 is a erspective viewA of a frag ment of the cabinet showing the lower panel and the ironin board in partially open position; Fig. g is a' section through the cabinet and board showing the board in o en position; and Fig.' 3 is a horizontal section showin the cablnet.
Referring more particular to the drawng4 is .a cabinet, preferab .of such dimensions that it will readil t in the wall between the studdings of.. nary and usual building structures. The cabinetis' open at with an upper hinged panel hi door 5 and a lower board.
serving asja strut for'ther ironing The side members of the cabinet are each for guide provided with a slotlforniing we pins. At the kupper end of the s ots are olfset notches 8 an 9.
Secured by hinges 10 to the lower cross pulling the board the notches 8, and th Apanel pivoted at its the board in closed position within Application and my is, 1922. aerial no. 500,935.
member of the cabinet frame is the panel The ironing board l1 is secured to the upper end of the panel by means of a triple leaf hinge 12. At the rear the ironing board has 1gui7 e pins 14 which are disposed to ride in s ot Suppose it is desired to unfold the board into its higher position, the door is opened and the top of the ironin board vl1 grasped and pulled outwardly. he guide pins 14 are maintained in the slots 7 until they reach the upper end thereof and are then directed outwardl into the notches 9 by fibrwardly. This positions the rear end of the ironing board at its higher position. To dispose the panel in 4a corresponding position, it is moved inwardly into position shown in full lines in Fig. 2 so that the middle leaves of the hinges 12 are disposed beneath the leaves of the hinges fastened to the board 11. If it is desired to dispose the board in its lower position, the guide ins 14 are directed into e hinges 12 unfolded so that the middle leaves rest avainstthe ironng board in the position shown in dotted mes in Fig. 2.
It is apparent that the lower panel serves as a closure panel for the cabinet and also as strut for Ythe ironing board. As a strut. it is adjustable to two positions. All of the parts of the apparatus are permanenti fastened together, thereby providing a evice which requires a minimum of manipulation to close and open it into adjusted position.
What I claim is:
1. In a device of the class' described, the combination of a. cabinet having horizontal lateral slots at di'erent heights, `a lower end tothe lower ortion of said cabinet to be swung on a orizontal axis .and for closing the lower portion thereof, an ironin board having guide pins at its rear slidale in said cabinet and arrangdobe disposed in said slots, a triple leaf inge securing the upper lend of said panel to said ironing board so that said panel may bedisposecl to support said board at different places intermediate its ends and thereby to support said ironing llO support. said board at different placesl intermediate its our] and thereby to support said inoning board at two different heights." l0 In Winess'that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto subscribed my name this 8th l g day of Mziy,V 1922.
NRY PERCIVAL DIXON.
