Description

J. DENKHOFF PHOTOGRAPH AND THE LIKE Jan. 8, 1924. 1,480,198
Filed April 26. 1922 ATTOR Patented Jan. 8, 1924,
PHOTOGRAPH AND THE LIKE.
Application filed April 26, 1922. Serial Ito-556,631.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that LJosrrnmn-Dnnknorr, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Sausalito, county of'Marin, and State of California, have invented a new'and useful Improvement in Photographs and the like, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates in general to photographs and the like and has'reference more 1 particularly to an improved means of mounting a photograph picture or the like to give the same an attractive and novel appearance.
The invention will be readily understood upon referrin to the accompanyin drawing in which igure 1 is a view in e evation of the photograph as completed; Figure 2 is a view in elevation of the photograph just 7 before it'has been finished; Figure 3 is a view in elevation of the back of the photograph as completed; Figure 4 is a crosssection of the photograph after the same has been pasted to a-smtable; backing; Figure 5 is a similar section after the photograph has 2 been treated 'to raise the same in relief and Figure 6 is a cross-section through the finished photograph.
Referring now to the drawing in detail I first take a photograph picture or the like such as (1) and paste the same on a suitable backing (2) ofp'liable metal, such as tin foil or the like. I then take a stylus or other.
instrument and raise the area of the likeness in relief .by applying pressure with the stylus or instrument to the backing following closely the outlines of the likeness. and applying a greater pressure to places where I waiit the likeness to be more prominently displayed in relief, for instance, the area 40 around the eyes need not stand out as prominently as the area arourrd the cheeks, nose and chin. In any event; the likeness as stated is brought out in relief as best shown in Figure 5, where the portion (B) of the back- 4 ing is pressed in and the portion (A) of the likeness stands out.. 1 p 4 In connection with producing the likeness in relief I will refer to my co-pending application Serial No. 556,630 filed as of even date. In this particular case I propose to use thesame method for raising the likeness in relief but after this has been accomplished I remove the backing (2) from around the likeness and cut away the paper material on which the likeness is printed as best shown in Figure 2 and leave a margin such as I then fill the hollows in the raised likeness with a readily moldable material (D) (see Figure 6). This material may be parafiin or a composition that will 'not melt at ordinary warm temperatures and after the'niaterial has been poured into moldable material may be tinted to correspend to the coloring of that part of the photograph adjacent the same.
' claim:
The herein described method of producing photographs and the like in relief, which consists in placingth'e-photograph upon a .pliable backing, usin a stylus to apply pressure to the area of t e backing corresponding to the area of the likeness on the photographt so as to cause the likeness to stand out in relief and thereafter filling in the hollow of the likeness with moldable material cutting away the photograph to leave a margin around the likeness and folding said margin back over the molding material.
