Description

UNITED STATES HENRY o. EALLIN, 0E MATTooN,
PATENT EEICE,
ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN HITCHINGDEVICES.1
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. ll 7,920,.datcdFebruary 24, 1874; application filed August 23, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY C. FALLIN, of Mattoon, in the county of Goles andin the State of Illinois, have invented certain new and usei'nl Improvements in I'Iitehing Device; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters otl reference marked thereon, making a part of this speciiication.
The nature of my invention consists in connecting to a strap an open buckle, a portion of which is surrounded with india-rubber, for making a hitching-strap, as will be set forth.
In the accompanying' drawings, which make part of this specification, A represents a inetallic buckle which has one end open. In one end of the metal rod which forms this buckle is formed an eye, and upon the other end is formed either a notch or slight enlargement. In the eye above mentioned is secured a metallic loop, c, which partially revolves and catches upon theend d of the buckle. One
side of the buckle is incased in india-rubber, and this rubber is surrounded by one end of the strap B, as represented in the figure.
In using this as a bitching-strap, the loop c is slipped from the end Z of the buckle, and the strap, after having been carried around the object to which it is to be fastened, is inserted in the buckle, and there coniined by closin g the loop e over the end d, where it is held by the notch or enlargement, whichever is used. The object of the rubber is to draw the loose end of the buckle close to that por tion ot' the strap between the rubber and itself', so that when 'the strap, as seen in Fig. l, is inserted for bitching, it will not be allowed to slip, as there will be a strong pressure upon it, caused by the spring ofthe rubber.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by LettersPatent, is-
The rubber D, in combination with the strap and open buckle, as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing` I have hereunto set my hand this 7 tli day of August, 1873.
HENRY e. FALLIN.'
