When the bunching operation is to be performed, the filler is placed handle 9 grasped by the operator and moved forward. The binder is placed on the portion of" the apron overlying the bed plate with its rear edge projecting into the trough 11. Heretofore, the binder leaf has been cut to the proper size before being placed in the machine, but by the use of the present invention, the binder leaf is torn at the side of the machine, thereby eliminating the necessity of preparing the binder' leaf in the proper size. The movement of the pins 18 in the slots 17 of the cams turns the cams on their pivots and moves the arms 13 rearwardly from the position shown in Figure 2 of'the drawings, to theposition shown in Figure 1 of the drawings, drawing the apron 10 rearwardly and bunching the halfof the operation,'the cam :action rolls the bunch firmly and then slowly relaxes, allowing the last half toroll smoothly but not tight.

Having thus described my invention, I claim: v 1

An attachment for cigarfbunching machines comprising a fixed rod arranged on the bed plate of the machine, and a pivoted spaced rod arranged adjacent said fixed rod and adapted to be swung on itsp'ivot by the operation of the launching mechanism to binder firmly that it maybe torn the desired length as the launching operation progresses; V

A device for firmly holding cigar binders during the bunching operation comprising a rod arranged on the bed plate of a bunching machine, and a ivoted spaced rod arranged over said bed p ate and cooperating with said first mentioned rod to securely hold the binder as it is being stretched around the filler and torn off adjacent the 20 inner edge of said spaced rod.

6, A device for securely holding cigar binders during the bunching operation comprising a rod arranged on the bed plate of a bunching machine, a pivoted spaced rod arranged over said bed plate and cooperating with said first mentioned rod to firmly hold the binder residue While the portion required to cover the filler is being torn therefrom by the operation of the bunching machine, and means for normally maintaining said spaced rod in a raised position.
