DENNIS NLAHDERSDN Patented Dec. 18, 1923.
DENNIS M. ANDERSON, OF COLUMBUS, OHIO.
DRAIN SHELF.
Application filed October 16, 1922. Serial No. 594,851.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, DENNIS M. ANDER- soN, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Columbus, in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Drain Shelves, of which the following is a specification.
y present invention relates generally to glassware and dish drains, and more particularly to a drain shelf for use in connection with and supplemental to a kitchen sink and the like, my object being the provision of a small sanitary drain shelf which may be utilized in connection with a kitchen sink and the like in such manner as to drain into the sink, and which may be easily and quickly detached when it is not desired for use.
In the accompanying drawing which illustrates my present invention and forms a part of this specification,
Figure 1 is a front view illustrating the practical application of my invention,
Figures 2 and 3 are respectively a detail front view and side view thereof,
Figures 1 and 5 are respectively a longitudinal section and a transverse section therethrough,
Figure 6 is a top plan view thereof,
Figure 7 is a detail perspective view of the wall support or bracket, and
Figure 8 is an enlarged fragmentary vertical section through a portion of the device and the wall bracket supporting the same.
Referring now to these figures I have shown in Figure 1 a conventional type of sink 10 such as commonly used in the kitchens of homes, having a drain extension 11 above and supplemental to which my present proposed drain shelf is adapted for use in such manner as to drain downwardly into the sink 10 or upon its drain extension 11, my improved drain shelf being generally indicated at 12 in Figure 1, and being as shown particularly in Figures 2 to 6 inclusive, preferably stamped or pressed from a single piece of material which is thereafter coated or surfaced in such a way as to present a non-absorbing exterior permitting the drain shelf as a whole to be readily cleaned and maintained in a sanitary condition at all times.
The drain shelf as proposed by my invention is formed with a back plate 13 and a base 14:, the latter outstanding from the lower portion of the back from one end to the plate and slopin other, either with it plain upper surface or with drain grooves 15, the latter 1f present converging toward a downwardly opening drain 16 located adjacent to the lower end of the base and in practice opening above either the sink 10 or its extension 11 as The base may be shown in Figure 1.
provided with a surrounding rim 1? for the better support of glassware or small dishes to prevent the latter from falling off, and the back plate has means providing for its detachable support so that it may be easily placed in position when the shelf is to be used and as quickly removed when its use is no longer desirable, in order that it the way.
may be stored out of For the above purpose the bracket has a rearwardly curved peripheral flange 18 and this flange is provided at the the back plate with upper edge of depending lugs 19 natures depending upon the particular character of the wall.
It is thus obvious rearwardly curved ii that by virtue of its anges the back plate entirely conceals the supporting bracket from view when the efiective position and of the drain. shelf all drain shelf is in the that for the support that is necessary is to shift the lugs 19 downwardly into the pockets 20 of the bracket.
To remove the drain shelf all that is necessary is to lift these lugs out of the shelf can then be sto pockets and the drain red away leaving the space above the sink 10 and its extension 11 entirely free of obstruction.
I claim:
1. A glassware and ing a back plate and sloping from one end dish drain shelf hava base plate the latter to the other and provided with a downwardly opening drain adjacent to its lower end, a wall bracket having pockets therein, and lugs depending from the upper portio removable disposition 2. A glassware and n of the back plate for in said pockets. dish drain shelf hava back plate and a base plate the latter sloping from one end to the other and provided with a downwardly opening drain adjacent to its lower end, a wall bracket ing having pockets therein, said back plate l1av-' ing a rearwardly curved peripheral flange entirely therearound, and lugs depending from the upper "portion of the flange for removable disposition in the pockets'ofsaid DENNIS M. ANDERSON.
