As here shown, the component parts oi" the machine are mounted upon the bed or trame 30. The machine is driven by an electric motor 31 disposed at one end et said vbed or table, which is belted to a countershaft 32 arranged beneath the table and which, in turn, drives a shaft 33 arranged above the bed in suitable bearings.
Clutching means are provided whereby the machine may be operably connected with the motor or disconnected at the will of the operator. Said means include a cone 3d fixed to said shaft 33 arranged in the clutched condition to lit within the tapered surface or' a pulley 35 which is loosely arranged on said shaft 33 and belted to the ;Ounter-shait 32. A clutch control lever 36 is arranged at the front ot the machine and a rod 37 is extended from said lever through. said bed 30 to a point adjacent saidpulley and terminates in a block 33, which is in engagement with a pivoted lorled lever 33 in rotatable engagement with said pulley 35. A movement oi said clutch lever 36 from one position to another position serves to regularly move saidvrod 37 to roch said pivoted lever 38 and consequently move said pulley into engagement withV the cone 34 iixed to the shaft 33 or away from engagement with said cone to thereby operably connect said shaft with the motor or disconnect it 'from the motor.
Other clutching means, shown in the drawings but not necessarily described., are provided whereby the machine may be moved, at the control of an operative, through a single complete operation.

Said plate is slidably arranged on posts 56, which are secured in a frame member 57, here shown as or" substantially cross shaped form, and which is secured to the bed 30 of the machine by suitable bolts 58. The movement et said plate 55 is under the control of the operating ring, as will he hereinafter more iully described. Said plate 55., as here shown, is formed with radially extended arms 60 at right angles to each other, in which are formed the slots G1.
The material table, of which a partial sectional view is shown in Fig. 9, comprises a table portion 62 to the under side ot' which is secured downwardly extending rods 63, which are slidably arranged in the supports 611-. Springs 65 are interposed between said supports4 64; and the table, and said rods 63 are provided with nuts 65', which limit the upward movement ot' the table. By the provision oli the aa'ljustable supmat eri all simplified and cheaped, inasmuch as the same supports may be used :for all sizes olf tables7 the only necessary new part being the table portion 62.
The material to be folded is adapted to be placed on the table 62 and to be clamped to said table by a clamping 4plate secured to the presser head, which. is arranged above ,the material table and the other component 'l parts of the apparatus and secured to the presser frame.
The presser :frame is formed as a unitary structure, hming` a rear portion G9 and the two arms 70 extending therefrom to the 7l. The presser head is arranged to support the clamping plate and the vedge :tormers or fold delining n cans. as will `be hereinafter more fully explained. Said rear portion (59 ot the presser trame is fixed to two upright rods 72, which are slidably .arranged in the base 8O olf the machine. A cross member 7d is also lined on said rods beneath the top plate of said presser frame, and carries a pin 75 which is disposed in the cam groove 7G of the up` right 52 secured to the operating ring 49. Said cam groove `is shown in detail in Fig.
The position of said member 711-, controlled by the cam groove 7 G in the upright 52 ot the operating ring, and a movement of said operating ring in such direction as to lower said cross member 7l, serves to slide the two vertical rods 72 in their bearing surfaces `in the frame olf the niachii-ie to correspondi3Y lower the presser traine fixed to said rods to cause the en sagement et' the material placed on the table 52 by the clamping plate carried by the presser head.
The machine is arranged for the folding olf ythe four sides oit the material and the four corners ot the material, and tor-this purpose is provided i Tith side wipers 77 and with corner wipers 78. Said wipers 77 and 7 8 are arranged to be moved in toward the jtable 62 to fold the edglge of the material. Said connecting rods or members 86 are termed with slots S7 therein, through which screws 8S are passed to secure said connecting rods to the wiper oper-l ating members 82. By the arrangement'ol this slotted connection the connecting rods may be moved in toward the centre of `the machine and away from the center ot the machine to adjust the wipers it'or various dimensions of material to be :folded7 and thereby lorins an adjustable feature oit the machine.
The wipers arc supported von and between wiper supports. which in turn are arranged on the longitudinal cross bars 89 and transverse bars 90. Said bars are tongued at their extremities, and are slidably urranged in grooves 91 formed in the inner part ol' the rectangular iframe 8l. Said bars are so arranged that thejyv may move with respect to each other; that is the bars 9,9 may be moved with respect to the bars 39, or the bars S9 may be moved with respect to the bars 90, and provide means for spacin the wipers for various dimensions olf material to be folded. Rods 92 are arranged in spaced relation beneath the bars and are seI ed to the ends of said bars by bolts 953, and other rods are extended beneath the 99, and are similarlg7 secured to the en olf said bars by nie-uns ot bolts 93, Said rods 92 and 9i form in elllect parts ot the `said bars S9 nd 99, npon which the wiper snpports are adjustablv arranged and roi-ni means to stillen said bars.

In the operation of the machine the side wipers are first moved into operated position to fold over the side edges of the article, and then the corner wipers are moved into operated position. After the side wipers have operated to fold the straight sides of the material a superfluity of material is gathered at the corners which in the folding movement of the corner wipers forms wrinkles, whici. must be t ken care of and folded firmly and securely down over the edge of the material. For this purpose it has been found to be of advantage to form the wiping edge of the corner wipers with a number of small slots 107 into which the wrinkles of the material in the corner foldoperation are adapted to enter. Additional means are providedfor foldingthese wrinkles to the main body of material after the main portion of the corner has "been folded. These means comprise a spring` 108, which is secured to the corner wipers by suitable means, and which has a number of teeth 109 which are arranged within the slots 107. A rod 110 is extended over the corner wipers and secured by means of screws 111 to the wiper supports. The spring 108 is arranged with an upwardly bent portion 119l under which, in the eX- tended position of the wiper, said rod 110 is adapted to lie; by which arrangement the teeth 109 of said spring' are permitted to occupy the lowest position in the slots 107 .of the corner wipers.

Said rod 131 and the slide secured thereto is thereupon returned to its normal position by the spring 134, and the forming plates are thereupon extended to the fold delining position in readiness for another operation. Said creasing means comprises corner supports 146 bearing creasing irons 149 and side creasing irons 150. Certain of said corner supports are arranged to be heated by some means conveniently shown by the electric heating coils 152 to thereby heat the creasing iron. lt is sumcient to apply the heating means locally to the creasing iron, as the heat will be conducted to the entire creasing edge more or less uniformly. Inasmuch as the machine is adapted to operate upon material et various sizes, and as tliecrease formed in the folded material conforms very closely to the edge oic said material, it is necessary that said creasing LLL means maybe arranged to accommodate thev various dimensions of material ope ated upon. By the provision of corner supports bearing creasing irons 149, and separate side creasing irons 150, it may be seen that the corner supports and associated corner creasing irons may be moved closer together or farther apart, and the desired shape of supports are arranged in pairs on the rods 154, and may be adjusted relative to each other along said rods. The bases oi said sup-ports' are formed with gibbed grooves 155 therein, arranged transverse of the length of the rods 154 and bars 156 with tapered edges to tit the gibs of said grooves, are disposed' within said grooves. The arrangement ot said rods 154 and bars 156 at right angles to each other, provides means whereby the supports may be adjusted inwardly or outwardly to Vprovide ifor the creasing or material to differing dimensions. Said corner supports are adapted to be secured to said bars 156 and rods 154 by means of the set screws 157. The creasing means, as a whole, is secured to the plate 55 by means having provision for the vertical adjustment of said creasing means with respect to said plate, whereby the depth of' the crease in the material may be adjusted.
For this purpose two blocks 15S are arranged on arms 60 or" said plater55, and are 'formed with tongues 159 which extend with-. in the slot 61 of said arms.
