SWIMMING DEVICE.
Application filed December 13, 1921. Serial No. 522,045.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JosErH A. LAWLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Paterson, in the county of Passaic and State of New Jersey. have invented new and useful Improvements in Swimming Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to swimming devices, and the principal object is to produce a 1 device of this nature which may be utilized for teaching people how to swim and for preventing infants from accidental drownm r inother object is to produce a device of this nature which shall be simple of construction, cheap to manufacture and highly eflicient for the purpose for which it is designed.
Another object is to produce a device of this nature in which while in use, if a puncture is sustained by one section of the device, the whole thing will not collapse.
.Vith these and other objects in view, the invention resides in certain novel construction and combination and arrangement of parts, the essential features of which are hereinafter fully described, are particularly pointed out in the appended claims, and are illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in
39 which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my device.
Figure 2 is a fragmentarv sectional view taken on line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Like characters of reference refer to like parts in all views.
Referring to the drawing in detail, a tube of rubber or other light inflatable material is indicated at 10, and is divided at opposite sides by partitions 11 which may be of any suitable material. Each portion of the tube is provided with a valve 12 by which it may be inflated. Four adjustable straps or slides 13 encircle tube 10 and each is provided with a respective ring 14. Straps 15 pass over the shoulders of the wearer and are secured by spring snaps 16 to respective ones of the rings 14.
A back strap 17 is provided with a plurality of snap fastener elements 18 whereby it may be adjustably connected to the straps 15 so as to prevent them dropping down over the shoulders of the wearer.
It will be readily understood that in use the arms of the wearer project under the straps 15 and above the tube 10, and that the snaps 18 may be adjusted to hold the straps in their proper position. If during use the tube 10 is punctured at some point, the other half of the tube will be suflicient 0 to buoy up the user and prevent any serious accident.
What is claimed as new is:-
A swimming device comprising an endless inflatable tube having a plurality of separate sections within said tube and individual means for inflating said sections, a plurality of straps encircling said tube and adjustable there along, shoulder straps, means for removably securing said shoul- 7 der straps to the first said straps, and means for adjustably connecting said shoulder straps.
In testimony whereof I have aflixed my signature.
JOSEPH A. LAWLER.
