My invention relates to torches of the` type in which -oxygen and inflammable gas, `such as acetylenev are used to produce intense heat for welding, autogenous soldering, etc.
An object of the invention is to make the torch head adjustable in order that the torch may be readily used in different directions from the supply tubes and tanks, and that the nozzle may be conveniently directed through a, variety of angles with respect to the discharge head and tube.
Another object is to provide a torch in which onl small tips need be exchanged for the di erent kinds of work, in ordep to make it easy to adjust the torch to the particular work, and to simplify-the complete ap aratus and lessen the cost thereof.

The reference numeral 10 designates the operating handle mounted over pipes 11 and 12 having connecting stems 11' and 12 for attachment to the usual oxygen and acetylene supply tubes, and which pipes conduct said oxygen and acetylene to the chamber 13 provided in the mixing member 14 mounted in the forward part of handle 10. 'I he p ine 12 opens into said chamber and pipe 11 connects with a tip 11" extending substantially through said chamber and openrIhe construction so far described is known and now on the market, and heretofore a discharge tube with an integral discharge head has been mounted on the neck of said mixing member, and in order to adapt the torch to the particular work -a di'erent discharge tube with its integral head and its nozzle extending at the proper angle from said tube had to be substituted to fit the particular kind of work, thus makin it necessary tol carry an assortment of tu es with integral heads arranged at the varying angles. With the use of my improved device, I avoid all such extra expense and trouble occasioned with the use of the assortment of various heads with integral tubes thereon, by providing a discharge tube with an adjustable head having an integral nozzle anda smalldischarge tip replaceably mounted on the said nozzle lto suit the particular job, and by arranging the construction so that the tube may be rotated .axially on the vmixing member and the nozzle may be set at any angle with said tube. This construction preferabl comprises a. discharge tube 18 having a po ished end 19 for a gas-tight fit with the cooperating polished seat 17 in neck 16, and a collar 20 embraced by a coupling nut 21 engaging the threads on said neck. In order to mount the coupling nut 21 on tube 18, Said tube may be constructed in the two parts which are welded together after said nut has been added, or the collar 20 may be welded on said tube after the coupling nut has been mounted on the tube.
The discharge head is constructed in two parts, which may be semi-'spherical as shown, one of the parts 22 being integral with the forward end of the discharge tube 18, and the other part 23 being adjustably mounted thereon, by means of a round projecting portion 23 having a polished iit in a seat 22 of part 22, and by means of a threaded fastening member or screw 24 which extends through part 22 and has threaded engagement within part 23, said member 24 being provided with a head 25 having a olished fit with the seat 26 in part 22. cylindrical chamber 27 is provided within the two parts of the head and is of larger diameter than the member 24 and in constant communication with the interior channel of tube 18.
A. nozzle or stem 28 of suitable size and shape is made integral with part 22 of the head and a short nozzle tip 29 which is adapted for the particular work undertaken is removably mounted on the end of said nozzle 28, said tip being provided in various sizes and shapes to fit the particular kinds of work. The interior channel extending through said nozzle and tip has j constant communication, through chamber 27, with the interior channel in tube 18, in whatever direction and whatever angle the nozzle and adjustable part 23 of the head are swung on part 22 and the vattached tube 18. This adjusting is easily accomplished by loosenin the screw 24, by swinging nozzle 28 and lts attached part 23 of thehead into the position desired and again fastening said screw to retain the nozzle in such adjusted osition.
While have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set` forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A torch of the type described provided with a discharge tube, a nozzle head comprising a part integral with said tube and a part adj ustably mounted thereon, a central chamber formed within said parts, a member extending through said chamber and one of said parts forming an air-tight connection with said part and engaging the other part for adjustably fastening said parts together, and a nozzle on said adjustable part in constant communication with said tube throu h-said chamber.
2. torch provided with a discharge tube, a nozzle head comprising a semi-spherical part integral with said tube and a semispherical part adjustably mounted thereon, a cylindrical chamber formed in ,the joining portions of said two parts of said head and being in communication with the interior of said tube, a member extending through said chamber and one of said parts and having threaded engagement in the other part to permit adjustment of said parts and to vhold them in position, and a discharge nozzle mounted on said adjustable part .and communicating with said chamber.
3. A torch of the type described provided with a discharge tube, a nozzle head com prising a part integral with said tube and a part adjustably mounted thereon, a cylindrical chamber formed in the two parts of said head and being in communication with the interior of said tube, a member extending through said chamber and one of said parts and having threa-ded engagement in the other part to permit adjustment of said parts and to hold them in position, said mem er forming la gas-tight connection with the part of said head through which it passes, and a nozzle integral with said ad-l justable part and provided with a replaceable tip. i

A torch provided with a discharge tube, a nozzle head comprising a semi-spherical part integral with said tube and a semispherical part a-djustably mounted on the first said part one of said parts having a seat formed therein and the other a rounded projecting portion havinga` olished t with said seat, a. cylindrical chamber formed in the joining portions of said two partsand having free communication with the interior of said tube, a bolt extending through said chamber and one of said parts and having a head forming a gas-tight communication with said part, said bolt having threaded engagement in the other part to permit adjustment of said parts, and a discharge nozzle mounted on the adjustable part an-d freely communicating With said chamber.
5. A torch of the type described having a member provided with a mixing chamber, a discharge tube mounted thereon for axial rotation, a nozzle head comprising two parts one of which is integral with said tube, a nozzle integral with the other of said parts means permitting rotational adjustment o l the nozzle part of said head upon the tube part of the head, and a small tip removably mounted on said nozzle. l 6. The combination, in a torch of the typ described -having a handle provided with supply conduits and a mixing chamber coni charge tube seated in' said head and com municating with an orifice-on said chamber, means for adjustably fasteningx said tube on said mixing head, a'discharge ead comprising a member integral with said tube and a' member adjustably mounted thereon, a nozzle on said adjustable member, and being in constant communication with said discharge izo ist
tube, and means for fastening said nozzle at any angle With respect to said tube.
8. The combination, in a torch of the type described having a plurality of tubes and a mixing head provided with a mixing chamber connected with said tubes, of a discharge tube seated in said. head and communicating with an outlet on said chamber, means for mounting said tube on said mixing head and permitting axial rotation thereon, a discharge head comprising a semi-spherical member integral with said tube and a semispherical member adjustably mounted on said integral member, a nozzle integral with said adjustable member, there being a chamber formed in the joining parts of said semispherical members connecting the interior' of said nozzle and tube, and means for adjusting and fastening said nozzle at any angle With respect to said tube.
