SKYLIGHT CONSTRUCTION.
. Application filed December S, 1920. Serial No. 429,077.
ToaZZw/wmt may concern: 7 Figure is a detail sectionaljview taken .Be it known that I, Josnrrr SYLvAN, a on the line 5-5 of Figure 4. citizen of the United States, and a resident Figure 6 is a detail perspective view of a f Chicago, in the county of Cook and condensation gutter meniber,-cmbodied in 5 State of Illinois, have invented certain new my improved skylight construction.
and useful Improvements in Skylight-Con- Figure 7 is a cross section of a combinastructions; and I do'hereby declare that the tion sealing and gutter strip embodied in following is a full, clear, and exact descripmy improved skylight construction. 60' tion thereof, reference being had to the .ac- Figure 8 is a cross section through a one i conipanying drawings, and to the letters piece ridge strip embodied in my improved of reference marked thereon, which form a skylight construction. part of this specification. v Figure 9 is a cross section through an This invention relates to improvements in eaves Tgutter strip embodied in my skylight 66 skylight construction and consists of the construction. matters hereinafter described and more par; Referring now in detail to that emboditicularly pointed out inthe appended claims. ment of the invention illustrated in'the ac- Une of the objects of the invention is to"companying drawings, 10 indicates a buildprovide a stronig, rigid and leak proof skying roof having an upright curb wall 11, 70 light construction, which will readily catch .(lefining an elongated rectangular skylight ,11 at f cg ndensation which forms on opening-12. The framework of the skylight the inner surface of the skylight and will includes longitudinally spaced cross beams discharge the same outside of the slr ligh, 13, ofangle' bars which rest at their ends so that there will be no dripping of water upon the curb wall, at points spaced from 75 into the room beneath the same. 'Another the upright d pl tes 14 of he Sky ght object of the invention is to so arrange and. (See Fig 15-15 indicates the ra ers construct several of the non-sustaining parts of the skylight which are inclined downof the slrylighhthat they may be quickly re- 3 wardly and outwardly from each other from moved without the aid of tools, for the purthe ridge or peak of the skylight, the outer so pose of fully exposing all parts of the" ends of said rafters being fixed to, but proso light when it is desired to paint thesame. j cting beyond the cnds ol he beams 13.v
it further object of the invention is to so The inner ends of each pair of said rafters arrange the several. parts that the interare secured to the top ends of posts 16 (only engage each other in a manner locking said one of which is shown in Figs. 2 an 85 parts in place. v which in turn are secured to the cross The many advantages of the invention beams 13.

Removably attached beneath and parallel with each of the glazing bars 22 and 23 are removable condensation gutter strips 61 and 62 respectively. Each of said strips is of substantially shallow V-shaped cross section and has marginal flanges 63 which are bent inwardly upon the side walls of said strips. The gutter strip 61 (see Fig. 3) associatedwith each glazing bar 22, is of a length equal to the distance between the inner surface of the angle bars 17' and the bent over marginale'dge of the combination strips 24 before referred to and the outer end of said condensation strips are cut away so as to discharge into theeaves strips.
30. Short sections of the flanges63 of said strips arezbent upwardly and away from the body parts of the strips to provide oppositely disposed ledges 64 adapted for The condensationgutters 62 associated with the glazing bars 23 are ofa length, shorter than the distance between the angle bars 18 and 20, but have similar bent out sections of flanges 63 to provide similar ledges 6464 which engage upon 2 clip fingers 6565 on the angle bars 20 and 18 respec tively. The outer end of'the condensation gutter strips .62 overhang the flange 26 of the combination strip 24 and are cut away in the same manner as the strips 61, to discharge any water of condensation, onto the flange 26' of said combination strip Such water will pass through the holes 28 in the flanges 26 and into the gutter strips 61, which in turn discharge by gravity into the eaves strips which have the holes 38 for discharging said water upon. the roof .10 outside the skylight. This construction of condensation strips 61 and .62 permits attachment and removal without the aid of tools, for the purpose of cleaning and painting.

sorted in place with their top ends extend-V glazing bars 22--23 have been erected, the v ridge piece 40 is placed in position with its flanges engaging and resting upon the angle bars 18. The clips 36 are then placed on the angle bars 17 between the glazing bars 22, and engaged with the hooked flanges 35 of theeaves strips 30, which of course have been engaged upon the curbs 17 before the beams 13 were set 1n place. Of course the; combination strips 24 are placed in position between the angle bars 19=and 20 and the putty layer 29 applied at the time of setting the angle bars 19 and 20. t
The glazing or looking strips are then secured in place to the glazing bars and the putty applied thereto for the side margins The panels 53 are then ining into the grooves 46 of the ridge piece, and engaging the webs 44 of said ridge strip, and thus lock said strip in place. The
inverted V-shaped cover strips 59 are then applied to the glazing-bars 23 and strips 55 from the outer end thereof, and moved longitudinally upward and inward until the top endsof said cover strips engage. beneath the double flanges 42 of the ridge strip. Tl'ie'slight resiliency in the flanges 42 of the ridge strip together with the engagement of the cover strip with the side strips of the glazing bars holds the cover strips in position. f
The panels'50- are then placed in position on the glazing bars 22 and the cover strips 59 applied thereto in the same manner as in the case of the cover strips 59 before mentioned; The cover strips associated with the glazing bar 22 are engaged at their top inner ends, beneath the bent over flange 27 of the combination strips 24 and this assists in holding said cover. strips in place. The condensation gutters 7 6162 are now placed in position with the ledges 64.64 thereof aligned. with the clip fingers 6555 after which an endwise outward movement of said condensation strips will cause the said ledgesto removably engage upon the top surface of said fingers, so as to be supported thereon, the said strips being limited in their outward movement by their engagement with the angle bars 17 and 20 respectively. To remove the said condensation strips, they are moved inwardly away from the angle barsjl? and 20 when they become disengaged from the'clip fingers which sup port them.
