To*'all m7wm itmafy co-nce'rn: 1
Be it 1nioWn that I, GEORGE J .VON GLAHN,
a citizen of1theUnited Stases, residin at Brklyn, in thecounty O'E'Kings and tate o1 New York have invtanted ceftain new ai1d ueful Improvements in Pipe Fittings,
of which ehe folldwing is a speeification.
h This inventi0i1 has relation t0 sink fitjunge; and has for an obgect t0 prov1de an improve'd elbowcouphn'g adzipted to rece1verelative irioveinelnt and t0 -'prform other p1ipbsies a's"vvill be reently obvious.
Another ob]ect 0f the 1nvent1on 1s 130 piovide an iinpfoved ;oupling having the Eharacteristieg above s e'tff orth and in additi0n theieto being -designed for u'se in eonneeti0n with tw0 difie'rent kinds 015 faucets, namely, those of the turnpl1ig type having a handle operating in a hor1zontal plane, and those of the cone valve type having a handle operating in a vertical plane, the eoupling being designed to resisb strain plac'ed upon the faucet by operation of the handle in either direetion preve-nting dislodgment 01" the faucet relative to the sink. In addition to the foregoing this invention comprehends improvements in the details 013 construction and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described and parti tzularly set forth in the appended claims.
In the accomp'anying drawings in Which similar and corresponding arts are designated by the same characters 01 reference throughout the several viewsin which they appear. V
Figure 1 is a view in side elevatio-n, partly in seetion of a faucet and fragments of a Sink Wall showing the embodiment therein 01 my invention.
Figure 2 .is a view in perspective of my improved elbow coupling.
Figure 3 is a view 01" a slightly modified for1n 0f elbow eoupling.
Figure 4 is a view in side elevation 0 another for1n of faucet Wih the corresponding form 01 1ny invention applied thereto.
With reference to'the drawings, 10 indieates die back Wall of a sink having' an opening 12 in which the threaded extension 13 0 1 a fauce 14 extends tl1e latten having aflange 15 which engages the fronb surface of thesaid Wall. I1; Wlll be notd that the opening 12 is= larger in diameter than the extension 13 or smaller than the'flange 15, so as to permit adjustments of the faucet relative to the opening 12 when making connection with the plumbing, sinc'e the faucet: may not alvvays be located centrally 0f the openings 12. -The stand pipe of the y plun1bing systern .is sh0wn at .16 andithr6aded1y engaged 1thereupon is an elbow 17 which alsl0 receives the threaded extension 13. As shown in Figure 11 a 111g 18 is forined i1pon the outer side 0f the coupling to engage the Tear Surface 01 the sink wal1 and another Ing 19 is provided to similarly 'engage the sink Wall, said last mentioned lug being lo'oated uponthe imier side of the coupling and between the ends thereof as .shown moreelearlyin Figure 3. These lugs are formed integrally with the elb0w during the process 01 casting. The fauce=t is rotated s=o* as t0 screw the extension 13 tightl-y into the cmipling andit will beseen that the sink Wall is tightly gripped between the flange 15 andthe lugs 18 and 19. In this manner the sink and faucet are held immovably together and'may not be displaced while subject to ordinary use. Also the stand pipe 16 is thus enabled 130 afford an additional support for -the sink. The
faucet shown in Figure 1 is of the type einbodying a vertieally reciprot:able cone valve and it will be obvious that a9 the same is actuated a vertical strain is placed upon the eh tire fauceo. Owing to the facts that the lge 18 and 19 are in vertically aligned relation this movement of the faucet is effectually resisted.
1 have illustrated in Figure 3 a modified form of coupling consisting' of a vertical portion 20 wlnich is1ormed 'with a right angular bend at its upper end terminating in a flanged internally threaded portion 22 designed 130 receive the threaded extension 13 o1": the faucet. 'This formis employed where the stand pipe is of lead inscead 01 iron and in the form shown in Figure 1. In the case of the lead stand pipe a wipe j0int is effected between ehe stand pipe and the portion 20. In this instance I have shown a pair 0f lugs 23, formed integrally With the flanged portion 22 and the side 01 'the portin 21 extending along the latter
