Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
THOMAS V. MOORE, .OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO FANNIE N. MOORE,
or PLAINEIELD, N. J.'
IMPROVEMENT IN cHAiR-sEATs.
Specification forming part ot' Letters Patent No. 147,677, dated February 17, 1874; application tiled November 22, 12573.
To all whom z't'may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS W. MOORE, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Chair-Seat; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawin g forming a part ot' this specification.
The invention relates to the backs and seats ot' chairs; and consists in a novel mode of combining rigid pieces A With springs to form a pleasant, elastic seat, as hereinafter fully described, and subsequently pointed out in the claim Figure l is a plan, and Figs. 2 and 3 sectional views, illustrative of my invention.
A is a frame, which may be of any preferred form; and B, a series of springs arranged parallel to each other, and fastened at each endto opposite sides of the frame. These springs are crimped or corrugated to allow for a proper degree of contraction and expansion,
and also bent at intervals to form spaces for the reception of iiat transverse pieces E. The latter are interlaced with the springs at regular intervals, are parallel to each other, and may be secured by rivets, bolts, or fastenings, if desired. These flat pieces E give a smooh face to the seat or back of a chair; but others of a`dift`erent shape or length may be employed to prevent the projection of the corrugations from being irksome and unpleasant to the sitter.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim 1- The combination, with frame A, of parallel corrugated springs 'and Hat facing-pieces, fastened at right angles to each other, and interlocked together, as and for the purpose de scribed.
THOMAS W. MOORE. Witnesses:
