CENTRIFUGAL EXTRACTOR.
Applica tionrled October 16, 1917. Serial No, 196,826.
To al? .7o/0m it muy concern:
Be it known thatl lr SYnNi-r Pnesruu'n. citizen ot' the United States, residing at Cincinnati, in the county of. Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Centrifugal ,Extractors, vof which the following is a specification. l if This invention relates tojccntrifu'gal eX- tractois, such are used for extracting surplus wateror liquids from goods or fabrics to be laundered or cleaned-br from any vother substance or materialskThe invention is more particularly, vconcerned with the rotating basket WhChcarries the goods or materials to be extracted.
The object of the invention is to provide an improved extractor Awhose'basket` is so constructed as to enable the. goods or Inate' rials to he readily loaded into said basket or unloaded therefrom. and which enables the l basket to be operated with less than a. full normal or running position with the discharge door in the curb closed; and Fig. Q is a similar` view, parts being omitted, showing the parts in discharge or unloading poe sition.
The extractor shown in the drawings comprises a suitable curb 1 of the usual shape and provided in its bottom with a. seat 2 for a. step bearing 3 for the spindle Ltjournalled at its upper end in a bearing 5 carried by an arm 6 attached to the upper end of standard 7 supported on the curb. On the spin- 4dle is the usual driving pulley 8 to receive the driving belt, and opposite said pulley is a brake 9 carried by a pivoted lever 10! connected by a link 11 to a lever 12 actuated by a screw handle 13.
The top of the curb is provided with a large opening 14, while its side wall is also provided with an opening 15 closed by a door or cover 16 hinged at the bottom of the opening and preferably provided within the curb with a depending flange 17. This door serves not only as a closure for the opening l5 but also as a discharge table along which the goods are moved into anl from the basket as will appear.
On the spindle 4 is mounted the basket which carries the goodsor material to be extracted. This basket. comprises a conical bottoni 13 attached to or integral with a o? rim being connected at its upper end to a cover plate having a circular or annular ring like portion :23 carried b v a small. Sleeve 2l rotatable and slidable on the spindle -t and provided at its upper end with ariiunvdercut flange 25.
Al the upper end of the standard? is -a bracket QG carrying a shaft 2T on which is a 5 driving pulley 23. Said shaftis also provided with-a clutch member 29 rotating with said shaft and cooperating with clutch members 3() upon two oppositely disposed bevelA gears 3l loose on said Shaft and both meshing with a cooperating bevel gear 3.) on the upper end of ascrew shaft 33 threaded intoaA nut 34 in a follower 35, said follower being also provided with a sleeve portion 36 traveling vertically upon.a nonrotatable guide shaft 37'.- Follower 35 isprovided with depending brackets 38 in which is suitably mounted a rod 39 carrying at its forward end a. head 40 provided with a hook member Lil and a handle 42 passing around the spindleI 4 to the front.
. of the machine.
Fig. l shows the driving or operattng po-A sition of the parts. The vertically movable member of the basket, to wit, its outer wall and top, is down. The basket is presumed to be loaded. The door 16 is closed.A The load may be distributed readily among the several compartments of the basket. A light load, for example, could be distributed equally between two opposite compartments, the remaining compartments being empty,` without disturbing or affecting the balance of the basket. In this position power is supvplied throuoh a belt tothe pulley to r0- tate the basket, thereby causing moisture or liquids which it contains t-o flow outwardly to the wall or rim 22 and then through the same if it is perforate. or` if imperforate,
down to the bottom of said wall and out through the spaces .lf3 between the bottom edge of said wall and floor of the basket. When extraction has been completed and the basket brought to rest the vertically movable member of the basket is lifted to enable the goods to be discharged from the machine. This is done b v pulling forwardly on the handle 42 to shift the hook member ll into position beneath the flange 25 of the sleeve 24. Next the clutch shifting lever 44 is shifted to throw the clutch member 29 into engagement. with the proper one of the cooperating clutch members Il() and thereby rotate the screw shaft 33 to lift the traveler 35 and' movable member of the basket tothe position shown in Fig. 2. Door 16 is then opened` and by turning the basket by hand to present its several compartments in turn to the door opening, the goods therein can be ('lragged out over the door. The basket side wall and top are then lowered by reverse rotation of the screw shaft, and after 'loading the machine with a. new batch and closing the door the new batch can be extracted as before.

An extractor, comprising a basket rotatable on a vertical axis, said basket comprising a bottom xed against vertical movement and a series of outwardly extending partitions having downwardly inclined outer edges, and a verticallyY movable outer wall on said basket arranged when lifted to expose the material therein, said outer wall flaring downwardly.
