Be it known that l, PAUL B. BASH, a citizen of the United States, residing in Wil mington, Dclaware, have inve ted a Display Frame, of which the following is a speciication.

One object ot my invention is to provide a tra'ne tor use in displaying matter, particularly advertising, which is subject to frequent change, the construction being such as to facilitate the changing operation.

Another object of the invention is to provide a 'frame that' will accommodate practically all kinds OI" material upon which the advertising matter may be depicted, irrespective of fiexibility or inflexibility, its thickness, or transparency.

A further object is to provide a temporary mounting tor advertising matter capable' of retaining the sheet or other body upon which the advertising matter is` shown firmly in a fiat stretched condition without the use of a hacking and in such manner as to give the appearance of a permanent mounting.

A further object is to provide a frame which dispenses with the hacking com monly found in frames to permit the display of transparent and semi-transparent subjects by means of a source of light at the rear of the frame.

The structure by means of which these and' further objects are accomplished is illustratecl in the attached drawing, in which:

With reference to 'the drawings, the device comprises in the present instance a substantiallv rectangular frame 1 which may be made as ornamental as desired. Although in the present 'instance the france is Serial Ne. 605375.

rcctangular, it will be noted that it may assume any form suited to the particular re- 5 quirements. The ?france is preterably a comparatively thin one, and .is provided at various spaced points around its periphery With slots or recesses 2 which `eXtend inwarcll r from the enter edges of the treme. In the present instance, as clearl illustrated in 2, the rectangular fram is provided with two of the Slots 2 in each side and at the top and bottom of the frame.

For use in conjunction with the frame l is 6 a correspondinply shaped'sectional france consisting of side bars 3, 3, and top and bottoin bars l, 4:, which bars are illustrated in 3. These bars are in the present instance of the same thickness as the frame l, and are provided 'with Slots 5 similar to the Slots 2 in the rame l, and similarly spaced so that when the bars 3 and i lie against the backs of the corresponding sides or" the frame 1, the said recesses 2 and 5 are brought into conjunction. These slots 2 and 5 are 'adapted tor the reception of U- shaped clamping elements 6, 6, which are inserted as best illustrated in Fig. 5, and thereby clamping the bars 3 and 4 'tightly against the side of the trame 1, as shown in Figs. 1, 4: and 5. One of the clamping elements is shown in perspective in Fig. 6, and is preferably made of metal or similar resilient'material which tendsto resist separation of the legs of the clamp such as occurs as when the clamp is` inserted in the slot, a tension accordingly being' eXerted by the clamp holding the bars 3 and 4 tightly to the frame 1. 90 In utilizing this devic e, the sheet or plate, or other object, which carries the advertising or' other matter is laid against the back of the trame 1, the bars 3 and l then one at a time being placed in their proper positions against the back of the body and the clamps inserted in the slots whereby the sheet or plate is clamped firmlv between the iframe and the said bars, which latter with the clamps 6 constitute in efiect individual clamps hearing at different points against the sheet which they conline. Owing to the wide hearing surfaccs of the bars and the gripping force exerted by the clamps 6, it is possible to maintain any form of sheet or plate regardless ot fiexibility or fineness of texture in a fiat stretched condition, giving the appearance of a permanent mounting. At the same time, it is an extremely simple operation to remove one sheet from the frame and to insert another.

It Will be apparent that by use of the clamping bars 3 and 4:, the effective gripping surface of the clamp 6 is greatly increased, which makes possible the use of materials in the advertisin body of extremely i ragile teXtnre Without injury.

It Will further be noted that by reason of the nature of the clamping elements the back 03'? the franie is leit open 'for the use of the display as a transparency. T he trame is an extremely inexpensive one, but Very effective, and permits the constant changing of displays Without:` injury either to the frame or the displayed object. ;Th-e iframe may be in numerous sizes for the reeeption of different sizes of advertising matter, and i may be Suspended from the Wall after the fashion of the ordinary picture mountng or may be supported in an upright position on a stand of suitable type or by means of a strut at the back.

l claim:

l. The combination With an integral. facing 'rame, of a hacking rame having suhstantially the same dimensione as the said facng frame and comorising a plurality of sections independent both of each other and of the facing frame, and means for independently and detachably clamping the said sections to the facing frame.

2. The combination With an integral tacing frame, of a hacking ,fi-ame having substantially the same dimensions as the said acing fr-*nie and comprisin z plurality of sections indepenr ient both of each oth i of the facing frame, correspon ingly placed recesses in the end edges ofthe facing fraine and of the sections oi' the hacking iframe, and resilient clamping elements aaapted 'to occupy the recesses and to secure the said 'sections to 'the facing treme.
