Be it known that I, VrLLAeLoRr MEDICI, a subject of the King of Italy, residing at Genoa, Italy, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Receptacle-Nashing Machines, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to an apparatus for washing and disinfecting glasses, cups and similar receptacles.
The principal object of the invention is to provide an apparatus of this character wherein a rotary driving member arranged at the terminal of a hollow shaft forming the admission for the cleaning water supports a series of pairs of brushes for the effectual cleaning of the innerand outer surfaces of the side walls of the receptacles, the brushes being equally spaced around the axis of the shaft and from a central brush arranged in the axial plane, the pairs of brushes forming annular cleaning grooves for the reception of the receptacle and being so arranged upon the rotary disk that by suitable manipulation of a hand lever they can be displaced radially of the disk, either toward or away from the axis of the latter in order to adapt the apparatus for use in connection with receptacles of various sizes.
Another object of the invention is to provide the improved washing apparatus with a device for admitting disinfecting iiuid to the hollow shaft which conducts the cleaning water so as to disinfect the receptacles at the same time that they are being washed,

In these figures in which the same numbers indicate the same parts 1 is an electric motor with hollow drive shaft 2, supported on the motor frame by means of ball bearings 3 and which hollow shaft supports the driving disk or member 4. The hollow shaft 2 is embraced by a tubular support 5 connected at one end with the frame of the motor 1. A socket 6 is concentrically applied to the support 5 and is connected with the sleeve 7 which latter rotatably receives the hollow shaft 2.

An annular member 9 is coupled with the sleeve 7 and is connected with the drive shaft 2 so as to rotate therewith, friction reducing members 8 being interposed between the sleeve 7 and the member 9. The member 9 is connected by a link 10 with adjustable brush supporting members 11 slidably mounted in radial slots 12 of the drive member 4. The support 5 is provided with diametrically opposed pins 5EL engaging in helical slots 6'nl in the socket 6 whereby, when the socket is turned by the hand lever 13 attached thereto, said socket is displaced longitudinally relatively to the member 5 in one direction or the other according to the direction of turning movement of the socket 6, thus effecting adjustment of the members 11 through the links 10. The hollow shaft 2 receives a stationary -tube 14 connected with a water supply conduit 14a, the tube 14 projecting beyond the driving member 4 and terminating in a perforated portion 15.
The adjustable supporting members 11 are connected with pairs of brushes, each pair consisting of an outer brush 17 and inner brush 16, the outer ends of which latter are so curved as shown in Fig. 1, as to facilitate insertion of the rim of a glass thereover. The inner brushes 16 are connected by means of arms 18 with a. hub 19 rotatably supportved upon the rod 2O connected with the perforated tube 15. The hub carries an end brush 19a arranged to engage and clean the bottom of the glass or other` receptacle.
A receptacle 21 is supported upon the motor 1 and is adapted to contain disinfecting fluid which latter is conducted by a tube 22 to the water conduit 14, a hand pump 23 being connected with the tube whereby proper quantities of disinfecting liquid may be injected into the conduit 14 so as to disinfect the glasses simultaneously with the cleaning thereof.
During the operation of the motor, the glass or other receptacle is forced inwardly over the inner group of bristles 16, the entire group of bristles having been previously adjusted according to the size of the glass, by proper manipulation of the hand lever 13. The water issuing from the perforations 15 is directed upon the rotating brushes and reing member 4 cleans the surfaces of the side Wall of the glasses, the bottom of the latter is engaged and cleaned by the bristles 19a.
The brushes and adjustable driving devices therefor, are enclosed in a casing ll provided with a slot 24a through which the hand lever 13 projects and in order to maintain the latter in adjusted position the edges the slot are recessed as at 24: whereby the lever may be engaged in the recesses and thus held in adjusted position.
It is evident that the apparatus can also be actioned by hand 'or by a belt driven pulley or by any other convenient driving means.
I claimi l. In a receptacle washing machine, a rotatable driving element, supporting` members mountedfor adjustment radially of the drivf ing element, a pair of cleaning elements carried by each supporting member adapted to engage the interior and exterior of the receptacle, and means for adjusting the s upporting members during rotation of the driving element.,
2. In a receptacle Washing machine of the type described, a rotary driving element, inner and outer annular series of'cleaning elements adapted to receive a receptacle' therebetween, means adjustably supporting said cleaning elements for rotation with the driving element, and means for adjusting said cleaning elements during rotation of the driving element.
3. In a receptacle Washing machine of the character described, a rotary drive shaft, a driving member carried by said shaft, a plurality of supports adjusted radially of the driving member, pairs of cleaning elements Acarried by the supports, and means connected with said supports for shifting the latter radially of the driving member during the rotation of thev latter, whereby to adapt the cleaning elements to receptacles of various sizes.

In a receptacle Washing machine of the type described, a rotary drive shaft, a drive member carried by said shaft, supports mounted for adjustment radially of the driving member, pairs ofA cleaning elements carrie'd by the supports, means'for adjusting said cleaning elements radially of the driving member, a perforated Water tube eX- tending in proximity to the cleaning elements for directing Water thereon and link connections between the extremities of certain of theV cleaning elements and the per forated tube for eecting adjustment thereof.
