Be 'it knownwthat 11,, PATRICK; Gori- NniGH'ron, -a Acitien of :the United States of America, and resident of-South Norwood, in the county of Hamilton and Statez-fof Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement inA Pocket Folders,of.which the following is a specification. y
An object of my invention is to provide a simple and eicient folder or case adapted to secure loose sheets of foldable material, such as paper, in an orderly manner, so that same maybe readily carried in a pocket without injury to such sheets.
Another object is to provide a device of the kind referred to, wherein the loose sheets may be easily and quickly secured and wherefrom the sheets may be easily and readily released or detached.
These and other objects are attained by the device shown.
Fig. 1 is a view showing in an extended position, a folder embodying my invention.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged view of parts shown in Fig. l showing in an extended position the jaws forming details of my invention.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view of parts shown in Fig. 2, the movable jaw being in a partly extended position.
Fig. 4 is a perspective view, on a reduced scale, showing in a folded position, a folder embodying my invention.
My invention comprises a foldable cover A, having mounted upon it a sheet holder B adapted to secure several sheets C, and a lock D adapted to secure the jaws of the holder in their operative or binding positions.
The cover or backing A may be made of any suitable foldable, and preferably flexible, material such as leather. If desired the folder may comprise several pieces of material such as cardboard, which may be hingedly mounted upon one another so .as to be foldable upon one another along lines corresponding to the lines a and a. The cover comprises end portions a2 and a3, between and connected with which is an intermediate portion a, The end portions are bendable or foldable upon the intermediate portions along' the lines a and a whereby the end portion a3 may extend over, or over lap the end portion a2 as shown in Fig. 4. The end portions carry complementary sections a5 and a of a suitable snap fastener or other fastening means whereby the end portions may:be;secured .in 'such overlapping 4-Ifelaitioln Y. l xThe endportion t? whichfrfunderlies` thel rend portion ai? has mounted onit a plate?) whichiforms one :of thej aws ofthe holder B.
This -jawiorplate 4may be secured upon the fcover. 11n; "anyY 'suitablefmannen such 'asl vby means of rivets b', so that the outer end b2 of said jaw extends substantially parallel with the edge a7 of the cover, and is spaced a short distance beyond the edge a7. The jaw b has pivotally mounted upon it, along its-edge b2, a jaw b3 complementary to and substantially coextensive with lthe jaw l).
flange Z2* extending longitudinally of itself.
mentary teeth or pins b5 adapted to be brought into cooperative engagement upon sheets of foldable material, such as paper, that are to be contained by the folder.
The jaw b has pivotally mounted on it a lock or clamp D comprising a U shaped clip consisting of a body d and sides d', d2. The clip has spring qualities, wherefor the sides or arms of the clip may be sprung in relation to one another and to the body. The arm d is elongated at one end, whereby a lug d5 is formed thereon. The lug is pivotally mounted on the jaw Z) by any suitable means such as the rivet da. The free end d* `of the arm d2 is flared outwardly or away from the arm d. The arms d2 and d1 are spaced from one another at a distance the outer faces of the jaws b and Z13 when folded upon one another as shown in Fig. 1.V
To secure sheets C in the folder or to remove some of the sheets from the same, the clip is moved about its pivotal mounting so that it extends longitudinally away from the cover A, or in other words is extended substantially at right angles to the edge al of the cover. The jaw b3 is then moved upon its pivotal mounting on jaw b to an extended position as shown in Fig. 3. The sheets C then have their upper ends c laid uponor removed from over the jaw b. The sheets are disposed upon the jaw in such position that the teeth b5 may engage the sheets, adjacent Vthe upper ends of such sheets. After the sheets have been removed from or dis- 70 I The jaw b3 is provided with an arcuate and arm cl2 engaging-- jawifsvg Vextending in substantial parallelismk with the edge a7 of the, cover,'l fhe,sp,r ing qualities of the clip cause VtheV arms 'toclainp the= aws in binding relation upon the. shfeletsm Vand the teeth on the jaws ix the "Sheets against movement between the jaws.
What I claim is: In j a device zoff the lclass f described the.. combination of a foldable cover, a pairfofjaws hingedly `connected along .5 their edges land .provided .with co-.operati'ng meansxadjacent` scribedmy name their free :edges Jfor n securing; `papersr between ;.the free ends of :the jaws,.onexofthezjaws being mountedk along itsfree redge-of the e ,.,iiplfsng re- 4sil n tmbranches between which the jaws may ,.blyeldingly reeeyed when in their Closed position, one'oic thebranches having an eX-Y l tension pivotally mounted on the jaw carry- "ing" the cover,
