CHARLES F. THAYER AND SYLVESTER E. BUNDAY, OF LINEVILLE, PA.
IMPROVEMENT IN ADJUSTABLE HANGER AND LCOSE-PULLEY ATTACHMENTS.
Specification-forming part of Letters Patent No. 14?,529. dated February 17, 1874; application filed January 19, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
with machinery thereto attached) when not inuse, thereby relieving the lineshaft from all of the weight and friction of the loose pulley and belt when not actually driving the machinery thereunto attached, the loose pulley revolving and resting upon the sleeve attached to the adjustable hanger, which is so constructed and arranged that it may be easily adjustable to a line-shaft in any position and in any place that may be required and necessary.
Figure 1 is an end view of the machine. Fig. 2 is a side view of the machine. Fig. 3 shows a vertical section of the adjustable hanger, sleeve, and slide on the line 2 z. Fig. 4 shows the adjustable slotted slide P detached. Fig. 5 shows the face side of the circular serrated or toothed plate or washer T detached.
A is a tight pulley fixed on the line-shaft C. B is a loose pulley hanging and revolving on the sleeve D around the line;shaft O without touching the line-shaft O. U denotes the upper and stationary arm or portion of the hanger attached to the frame-work or building. 0 denotes an adjustable arm of the hanger, having a long slot or opening, V, and groove 1) b, the same being attached to the stationary portion of the hanger U by means of the serrated or toothed washer T and the slotted slide 1. The slide P, Fig. 4, moving in the groove 7) b, Fig. 1, taken together with the serrated or toothed washer '1, enables the adjustable slotted arm 0 to be moved and varied to the right or left, less or more, as may be required, and by moving the slotted arm 0 up or down the hanger may be shortened or lengthened at pleasure, the wholebeing fixed and held in position by means of the bolt R. D denotes an open sleeve attached to the slotted. arm 0 by means of serrated or toothed joint a, Fig. 2, the sleeve D being open on the under side, and extending not more than two-thirds around the line shaft 0, so that it may be easily slipped over and around the line-shaft into position or taken off again, so that the shaft 0 will revolve without touching it the opening on under side of the sleeve D being filled by the slide E, said slide being employed for the purpose of moving the loose pulley B up against and away from the tight pulley A, in connection with and operating by means of the system of levers F G H I and slide lever K, moving and working in support L; the said sleeve D having arms X X, to one of which arms the lever F, passing through the slot 6, Fig. 3, in the slide E, is attached by means of the bolt W, said lever F thence connectin g with the lever G one of the said levers G, H, I, and K, as shown in Fig. 2, said levers acting simultaneously on the slide E and the belt Y, by means of which the belt Y is carried from one pulley to the other at the pleasure of the operator.
What we claim as our invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is j 1. The adjustable hanger U 0, constructed substantially as described.
2. The slotted or open sleeve D with the slide E, constructed substantially as and for the purpose described.
3. The combination of the adjustable hanger U 0 with the sleeve D, substantially as and for the purpose described.
4:. The combination, substantially as described, of the adjustable hanger U 0 and the sleeve D with the slide E and the levers F, G, H, I, and K, for the purpose set forth.
CHARLES FRANKLIN THAYEB. SYLVESTER ELISH A BUNDAY.
