Patented Nov. 27, 1923.
JOHANNES ROBERT CARL AUGUST, or HALIFAX, Efrem-AND.
RIVET OR THE LIKE HEATING FURNACE.
Application filed. June 2, 1920. Serial No. 386,089.
(GRANTED UNDER THE PROVISIONS OF THE ACT OF MARCH 3, 1921, 41 STAT. L., 1313.)
To all to 720m it may concern CARL AUGUST, subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Halifax, in the county of York and kingdom of England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in and Relating to Rivet or the like Heating Furnaces (for which I have filed application in England Nov. 22, 1916, Patent No. 107,158), ofwhich the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to improvements in rivet or the like heating furnaces, such for instance as furnacesfor the annealing of ball races, or again for the heating of billets o-r rivets, or for other like purposes of the type in which the articles pass automatically or are pushed along an inclined chute from the inlet to the outlet end of the furnace, which chute also usually serves as a flue for the heating gases.
According to the present invention the chute and floor along which the articles pass are covered by abridge forming the floor of a flue along which the heating gases finally pass.
The present invention is more particularly described with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which z- Figure 1 is a front cross sectional elevation of a furnace according to the present invention,
Figure 2 is a corresponding side cross sectional elevation.
In the back wall of the furnace an opening 1 is provided for the insertion of the rivets or the like articles which pass down a chute 2 extending into a heating floor 3 and thence to an outlet 4 diametrically opposite to the opening 1. It will consequently if one is pushed in through the opening 1 a corresponding article would be pushed on to or out of the opening 4-. Above'the chute and fioor 2, 3, is arranged a bridge 5, 6, preferably having a deflecting partition 7, which, being covered by the furnace gases on its top surface in their exit passage through flue 8, will form a heat radiating surface for the articles to be heated and will consequently increase the efficiency of the furnace. There are passages 10 arranged on V either side of the floor 3 which connect the Be it known that I, JoHANNEs Bonnier combustion space above the grate 9 with the chamber directly above said floor. The floor is solid throughout, and these passages are formed by cutting away a portion of the floor and forming flues for said cut away portion. The furnace gases pass from the combustion space above the grate 9 through these passages 10 and thence over the articles on the floor 3. The furnace gases on the way to the chimney 11 pass rearwardly through the flue 8 and thus the bridge 5 becomes heated, and this in turn forms thereof a radiating surface'which aids in heating the articles and consequently increases the efficiency of the furnace.
The furnace is provided on the side having an inlet opening 1 with an opening such as 12 for the insertion of fresh fuel for the furnace and on the opposite side, that is to say the same side as has the opening 4, with an opening 13 for the removal of ash or refuse.
The openings 1, 4, 12, 13 maybe normally closed by suitable doors as desired.
I declare that what I claim is 1. A rivet or the like heating furnace having an inlet opening on one side for the articles to be heated leading by means of a chute and a heating floor to an outlet opening diametrically opposite thereto at a lower level, in which the chute and floor are covered by a bridge forming the under surface of a flue along which the heating gases pass in the same direction as the articles passing through the furnace, passed directly over the articlesin the reverse direction.
2. A rivet heating or like furnace, comprising in combination an inlet opening at one side for the articles tobe heated, an outlet opening diametrically opposite thereto at a lower level, a chute and heating floor leading from the inlet'to the outlet opening, a fuelinlet arranged at the same side of the furnace as the inlet for the articles to be heated, and an ash orrefuse outlet on the same side of the furnace as the outlet for the articles to be heated.
3. A rivet heating or like furnace, comprising in combination an inlet opening at one side for the articles to be heated, an outafter these gases have 7 let opening diametrically opposite thereto signed my name this 29th day of May 1920, at a lower level a chute and heating floor 1n the presence of two subscribing WltIlGSSQb. leadin from the inlet to the outlet openin a fire Zrate arranged beneath the floor an cl JOHANNES, ROBERT CARL AUGUST 5 chute, and fines passing on either side of VVitnesses-z the said floor. 1 i 1 J. MQLACHLAN,
In Witness whereof, I have hereunto F. WILLIAMS.
