Description
M. A DAY VEIL HOLDER Nov. 27 1923.
Filed March 15 1923 Patented Nov. 27, 1923.
MARY A. DAY, OF TOLEDO, OHIO.
VEIL HOLDER.
Application filed March 15, 1923. Serial No. 625,244.
This invention relates to a veil holding means, preferably of the pin type, and has for its object the provision of a simple and inexpensive device of this character adapted to have a veil end loosely and quickly engaged thereto and to efficiently hold the veil against withdrawal therefrom.
The invention is fully described in the following specification, and while, in its broader aspect it is capable of embodiment in numerous forms, a preferred embodiment thereof is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which,
Figure 1 is a front view of a veil holder embodying the invention, and Figs. 2 and 3 are edge and back views, respectively, thereof.
Referring to the drawings, 1 designates the veil holder head or body, which, in the present instance, is of flat disk form and is provided with a T-slot 2 .for receiving a gatheredportion of a veil.
The leg portion of the slot 2, in the present instance, is disposed in radial relation to the head axis and opens at its outer end without the edge of the head 1 to permit the sidewise insertion of the gathered portion of a veil therein. One side of the head 1, preferably the outer or front side, is provided with a plurality of veil engaging teeth 3 along and in adjacent relation to the outer edge of the cross-bar portion of the slot.
The veil holder illustrated is of the stick pin type and is therefore provided with a in 4 which is fixed at its inner end to the back of the head 1 at the side of the crosstion of a veil is gathered up and inserted into the slot 2 through the open end of the leg portion thereof and is then partially spread out within the cross-bar portion of the slot and engaged toward the short or adjacent end of the veil with the teeth 3 so as to prevent a withdrawal of the veil from the slot when a pull isexerted thereon. The pin is then inserted in the hair or hat and drawn around the face of the person wearing the same and its free end portion then gathered up and inserted into the slot of another veil holder and engaged in like manner to the teeth 3 of such holder, after -which the pin is inserted into the hair or hat of the wearer in position to hold the veil firmly drawn around the face.
It is evident that a veil holder may be used at one or both ends of a veil, as desired, and that while it is shown as provided with a stick pin for engagement with the hair or hat, it may be provided with any other suitable fastening means.
It is also evident that the head portion of the. holder does not necessarily need to be of flat disk form, but may be of any other suitable shape and have any desired embellishment or design thereon to improve the appearance of thesame.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is, r 1. A veil holder having a head provided with a slot which extends a distance into the holder from one edge thereof without which it opens and thenextends at an angle to the open end portion of the slot to receive a gathered portion of a veil, said head having means adjacent to the angled portion of a slot for engaging a veil to prevent its withdrawal from the slot by a longitudinal pull on the veil.
2. A veil holder having a head provided with a T-slot for receiving the gathered up portion of a veil, the leg of which slot opens without an edge of the head, said head also having means. other than the slot walls for engaging a'veil to prevent its withdrawal from the slot when a longitudinal pull is exerted on the veil.
trance. 1
.by drawing the veil end down over the same 3. A veil holder having asubstantially flat head portion With an angled slot therein, with an end thereof opening Without an edge of the head, the slot being adapted to receive the gathered up portion of a veil, means on the head adjacent torthe slot for engaging a veil to prevent its withdrawal from the slot, and means attached to the head for releasably securing it to a carrying member. 10
In testimony whereof I have hereunte subscribed my name to this specification.
