WVith the above and other objects in view as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists of the novel form, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawing and claimed.

Referring more in detailto the accompanying drawing, thereis illustrated a box 1 supported by the bracket 2 and having an outer end opening door 3 permitting access to the interior of the box as illustrated in Fig. 1 for the placing of fiber, waste or similar material 4 to be saturated with the desired lubricant. The inner wall 5 has an opening through which the shaft 6 rotatably extends with the end 7 thereof disposed within the box and having a terminal an: nular flange 8 of the usual form.
An arcuate bearing plate 9 is positioned above the end 7 of the shaft and is maintained in engagement therewith by the block 10 as shown in Fig. 1, flat contacting faces being provided between the bearing 9 and block 10 while the latter is interlocked with the box 1.
The fibre holding member is associated with the end 7 of the shaft to prevent the lubricant saturated material 4 from passing upwardly to the bearing member 9, the member being preferably formed of wire as shown in Figs. 1 and 5 and bent from a single piece to provide an intermediate cross bar 11 having right angularly bent ends 12 that are further bent as at 13, the cross portion 11 traversing the outer face of the flanged head of the shaft end while the bent end portions 12 and 13 enclose the end flange 8 and are spaced therefrom, as illustrated. The wire section is continued to provide side arms 14; and have the ends thereof reversely bent as at 15 with the terminal ends of the portions 15 bent to pro vide clamping socket portions 16 that resiliently engage outwardly directed lugs 17 formed on the lower edges of the arcuate bearing 9 as shown more clearly in Figs. 1 to 3. -With the fibre positioning device so formed, the clamping ends 16 thereof resiliently engage the laterally positioned lugs 17 upon the bearing 9 while the bent ends 12 and 13 of the cross portion 11 are spaced from the flanged head 8 of the bearing ends 7, the side portions 14 being spaced from the opposite sides of the shaft end 7 fo the purpose of holding down the lubricant saturated material 4 and preventlng the same from being carried upwardly between the shaft end 7 and the bearing 9.
In the form of the invention shown in Figs. 6 and 7, the bent ends 12 of the form as illustrated in Fig. 4 are flattened as at 12 to provide relatively wide blades that positively hold the lubricant saturated material properly positioned 1n the box aga nst the peripheral edge of the shaft flange 8.
While there are herein shown and described the preferred embodiments of the present invention, itis nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made .therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed as new is 1. In a journal box bearing and lubricator, a bearing box containing lubricant saturated material, a shaft end extending into the box and di ping into the material, a bearing interposed etween the upper side of the box and shaft end, a lugprojecting from each side of the bearing,.and a Wire hold-down for the saturated material hav- -ing side portions positioned in spaced relation to the shaft end and arms extending having clamp ends engaging the bearing lugs to prevent conveying of the material upon rotation of the shaft end..
2. In a journal box bearing and lubricator, a bearing box containing lubricant emon -carried by the bearing saturated material, a shaft end extending into the box and dipping into the'material,
a bearing interposed between the upper side of the box and shaft end, a lug projecting from each side of the bearing, and a wire hold-down for the saturated material, said hold-down comprising an intermediate cross bar traversing the shaft end, angularly bent end portions carried by said cross bar spaced from the shaft end, side arms formed with said end portions extending longitudinally of the shaft, and reversely bent end portions carried by the side arms having clamping socket portions resiliently engaging the lugs member In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
