\ receptacle construction, for use in connection with installations in' which the wires are enclosed in conduits. The invention consists in the novel features and in the combinations and constructions hereinafter set forth and claimed.

In describing this invention, reference is had to the accompanying drawings in which like characters designate corresponding parts in all the views.

Figure 1 is an elevation, partly broken away, of a plug and plug receptacle embodying my invention, the contiguous part of the floor or wall through which the receptacle extends being also shown.

Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view of parts seen in Figure 1, the plug being omitted and the cap being shown as in position to close the entrance of the receptacle.

Figure 3 is a plan view of the socket and the support therefor; and

Figure 4 is an elevation of parts seen in Figure 8.

This plug and plug receptacle comprises generally a pipe, a coupling at the upper end of the pipe having an entrance for the electric plug therethrough, a socket located in the pipe, a cover for the entrance and a plug movable through the entrance and the coupling and into the socket and having a coupling interchangeable with said cover.

1 designates the pipe which is here shown as arranged in upright position and as extending through a floor. 2 is a coupling threading on the upper end of the pipe and having an upwardly extending wall or nippie 3 of less diameter than the pipe, thereby providing an annular wall 4 opposed to the upper edge of the pipe. 5 is the cover threading on the nipple 3.

6 is a socket located in the pipe and being here shown as suspended therein by means engaging the upper end of the pipe. The

supporting means, as here shown, includes a portion engaging or overlying the upper edge of the pipe and a portlon extending into the pipe and connected to the socket 6. As here shown, the portion overlying the end of the pipe includes a fiat ring 7 interposed between the upper edge face of the pipe 1 and the inner face of the top wall 4 of the coupling and this ring is provided with a depending arm 8 extending along the periphery of the socket 6 between the socket and the inner periphery of the pipe 1, this arm 6 being secured in any suitable manner, as by screws 9 to the socket 6. The arm is secured to the ring in any suitable manner, as by screws 9. The socket 6, as shown in Figure 3 is square in cross-section and the corners thereof engage the inner periphery of the pipe and the arm 8 is secured to one of the flat sides of the plug 6.

10 designates the plug having a terminal portion extending through the nipple 3, the ring 7 and into the socket 6 and also having a coupling or ring 11 swiveled or rotatable thereon and interchangeable with the cover 5.

In assembling, the pipe 1 is connected at its inner or lower end to the electrical conduit enclosing the wiring system and the socket 6 is dropped into the pipe, the ringshaped support 7 engaging the upper end of the pipe, the terminals of the sockets 6 having been previously connected to the wires in the pipe 1. The coupling 2 is then screwed on the pipe against the ring 7, thus rigidly securing the socket in the pipe 1. The terminals of the plug are connected to suitable wires in any well-known manner, and in operation, when it is desired to in sert the plug in the socket, the cover 5 is removed and the plug inserted through the entrance 3, ring 7 and into the socket 6, and the coupling or ring 11 secured on to the nipple 3, in the place formerly occupied by the cover.

Vhat I claim is:

1. A plug receptacle including a pipe, a coupling for the open end of the pipe having an entrance for the plug theret-hrough, a socket located in the pipe, a support for the socket having means coacting with the coupling and the pipe whereby the support is secured by the coupling, substantially as and for the purpose described.

2. A plug receptacle including a pipe, a socket located in the pipe, a socket support having a portion extending into the pipe and secured to the socket, and a portion overlying the end of the pipe, and a coupling mounted on the end of the pipeand' coacting with a portion of the support overlying the edge of the pipe to 11old the sup port in. position, substantially as and for the purpose specified.

3. A plug receptacle including a pipe, a socket located in the pipe, a socket support having a portion extending into the pipe and secured to the socket, and a ring shaped portion overlying the end of the pipe, and a coupling threading on the end of the pipe and coacting with a portion of the support overlying the edge of the pipe to hold the support in position, and the coupling threading on the end of the pipe and against the ring shaped portion of the support; substantially'as and for the purpose set forth.
