UNITED STATESP'ATENT OFFICE.
GEORGEAF. HAUsnRMaN, or BARTOW, FLORIDA.
DRiER.
Applicationfiled December 30,1921. Serial Ne. 525,835.
Be it known that I. Gnoncr. F. 'HAr'sER- MAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bartow, in the county of Polk and State of F lorida, have invented new and useful Improvements in Driers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in drying kilns, the general object of theinvention. being to. so construct the kiln that the maximum amount of drying space is secured and the material will be more,
evenly dried than in kilns structedj V p This invention also consists in certain as now conother features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully, described v Figure 3 is a longitudinal sectional-view.
through one end thereof.
Figure 4 is a similar view through the opv posite end. i s
\Figure 5 is a section on line 5-5 of Figure Figure 6 is-anenlarged plan view of the front end of the apparatus with parts broken w y Figure 7 is a fragmentary sectional view of the front'door 2, I
Figure-8 is a detail sectional view showing the means for holding the door in raised position.
Figure 9 is a perspective view of the door. In these views 1 indicates the drying'room ing, access to the room being provided by the doors 2 which are provided with horizontal hinges "at the upper ends, as shown at 3. These doors swing outwardly. The doors are adapted to be actuated by means of a winch 4: and the cables 5 which pass over --the guiding pulleys 6. Each cable is connected with a door so that when the winch is operated the doors will be swung to open or closed position. Each cable is provided with a ring 7 whichis adapted to engage a book. 8 so that the doors can be held in raisedposition and the cables released from the winch." This will permit the winch to be used for pulling the trucks 9 into and out.
of the drying room by means of the cables 10 which are connected with the winch after the door operating cables are released there from. At the front end of the building a chamber 11 is formed which is located above the drying room and this chamber contains the heating coils 12. This chamber is provided with a cold air intake 13 which is controlled by the shutter 14. The bottom of the chamber is provided with an'opening 15, at its front end, which is in communication with the front end of the drying room so that the heated air will pass from the chamber 11 into the drying. room to come in contact with the veneer or other material to be dried. In order to direct this air to the bottom of the drying-chamber I locate a flue 16. on the front door, which, when the door is closed, will cover the opening v15 so that the air passing through the same .will escape from the flue near the bottom of the drylng room,
A fan chamber 17 is located above the drying room at the rear end thereof and this chamber is in communication with the drying room by means of the passage 18. A fan 19 is arranged in the chamber 17 so. that vhen the fan is actuated a suction will be created to. draw the air from the drying room into the chamber and this air will discharge through the outlet 19, The fan maybe actuated in any desired manner, the drawings showing a pulley 20 on the fan shaft 21. The chamber 17 is provided with a damper 22 in front of the fan which actsas a means for preventing a vacuum being formed in the apparatus when the cold air damper is partly closed.
y my arrangement of parts the entire space within the drying room can be utilized for drying the material. -By placing the heating coils and the fan above the drying room the tracks can enter the room from the I ends thereof and the size of the buildingican be reduced. By introducing the air into the drying room at the bottom thereof a better drying effect is secured as the heated air travels along the floor inthe space between the loaded trucks and the floor and passes up through the racked material on the trucks and thus dries the material evenly.- The damper 14 can regulate the heat and when this damper is nearly closed damper 22 can be opened so as to reduce the strain (mthe fan. 1
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my, invention will be readily apparent, 7
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is 1. A kjlnot' the class described comprising a drying room, a heating chamber above the same and connected with the front end thereof, a suction chamber above the dry,-
ing room and connected with the rear end 'thereof and means directing the heated air from the heating chamber to the lower part of the drying room,
2. A kiln of the class described comprisvmeans for placing the suction chamber in communication with the atmosphere doors at the ends of the drying room and means for actuating the doors. s
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature. I
, GEORGE F. HAUSERMAN.
