Be it known that l, ll/.iiorninn MULLARKEY, a citizen ct the Dominion of Canada, residing at rlloronto, in the county of York and Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Registering Bevels, oit which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to improvements in registering bevels andthe principal object is to provide an instrument of the character described which is constructed of relatively iew parts, simple of adjustment for operation and which may be manufactured economically.
A `further object is to provide a device having no intricate or protruding parts and which may be folded and slipped into the pocket when not in use.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.
Figure 1 is a front elevational view of the improved bevel in open position.

Referring to the drawings like numerals designate like parts in the various drawings.
The improved bevel is iormed of three metallic sections, the numeral 5 designating the handle, while 6 and 7 designate the measuring sections. The section 6 is connected to the handle 5 by a pin having its opposite ends upset as at 9. A washer 10 is mounted on the pin 8 between the connected ends of the handle 5 and the section 6 and serves to hold the two in proper spaced relation.
The measuring section 7 is formed with a centrally disposed slot 10X extending almost its entire length and terminating in a circular opening in its lower end, through which projects a screw 11. This screw 11 is formed with an enlarged head 12 and extension 13, which latter seats in an opening in the opposite end of the handle 5.
An adjusting nut 14 has a knurled edge portion and an extension 15 which seats within the circular opening 18 in the side ot the member 5, upon opposite sides of the entrance to which are the points 22 and 23.

The section 7 at its outer end is cut on a bevel or obliquely to the longitudinal edges as at 16, while its opposite end is formed with a relatively narrow extension 17 e5;- tending in alinement with the inner edge oi said section.
Screw 11 forms the pivot of rule sect-ion 7 upon the handle 5 and likewise when the rule 7, is to be adjusted, the screw 11 is loosened by turning the nut lil, which latter will release the extension 15 from the circular opening in the slot end.
Section 6 is termed on one side with degree indica 'ions 10 to 65 inclusive and outer degree indications 115 to 170, while the section 7 adjacent its end is provided with deindications to 90 and 99 to 110.
Ttlv/'hen it is desired to use the instrument as an ordinary bevel, the screw 11 is loosened to allow the scale section 7 to be turned on it as a pivot until the desired angle of the blade 7 relatively to the handle 5 is obtained as seen in Fig. 1 and then the blade 7 is clamped tightly in position by tightening up on the nut 1d as illustra-ted in Fig. 3.
To obtain angles say, from 10o to 65 between the handle 5 and the slotted section 7 the point 19 of section 7 is slid along the line 20 until it touches the one of the desired graduations just above the line, after which the nut 141 is tightened to hold the section 7 in adjusted position. The screw 11 may be loosened and the blade 7 moved endwise, the slot 10X allowing of this movementJ and the blade moved until the point 19 is brought to the desired graduation on the member 6 and the nut 12 then tightened.
The angle is indicated with reference to the member 17 and the bottom edge of the member 5, as will be evident from Figure 1.
When it is desired to obtain angles from 65o to 90, the section 6 is adjusted to move the pin 21 along the inner edge of the slidable section 7, until the appropriate one of the points 22 or 23 registers with the graduations desired upon the inner edge of section 7 Gbtuse angles are obtained by using the angulation indicated by 135 in Fig. 1, the point 19 of section 7 designating the degree upon the upper part of section 6.
