I -TRQUSERS PRESSER AND'HAN(ar'lillR.V
` Application led October 17, 1921. Serial No. 508,175. l
citizen'of the UnitedStates, residing at Tulsa, in the county of Tulsa and State of Oklahoma, have linvented new and useful Improvements in VTrousers Pressers and Hangers, and of which the following is a? specication. A
Y.This invention lrelates toiapparel apparatus, particularly toffdevices for stretching `andfpressing trousers, andV has for its object` the provision otk novel deviceof this character which is readily capablegof being more fully described and claimed and illusf Y trated in the accompanying drawings in disassembled vand "stored within a Vsuitable carrying bag, some of the elements lbeing moreover capable of removal whereby the remaining portion may be used simply as a trouser hanger. l An important object-is the provision of novel clamping means for holding the different sections of the device in clamping relation to trousers engaged therein whereby to exert proper pressure for effecting creasgStill anothercbject is the provision of Va device of this character which is formed; entirely of metal and which, therefore vis incapablel of warping, splitting or thelike. An additional object is the provision `of a vdevice Aof this character which will be simple and inexpensive in manufacture, easy to assemble, and disassemble, positive in action, durable in service, and a general improvement in the art.
With the above and other objects and ad-V vantages in View, the invention consists in the details of construction' to be hereinafter whicli- Y f Figure 1n is an elevation of my 'deviceset up 'ready for use.VV f' Y Y Figure 2 is anedge view. v Figure 3 is a' detail cross sectional view on the line 3,-3 of Figure 1, v
'Figure 4f is a detail cross' sectional view on the line 4-44 of Figure 1.
Figure 5 is a fragmentary elevation show-l ino* the means forfconnecting two sections.-
eferring more particularly to `thedraw ings, I have shown my device as comprising a pair of elongatedrectangular frames 10,
which are connected at their intermediate portions by cross members y11. Formed 0r secured upon the upper edges of theseV frames, at substantially the centers thereof,
are Yupwardly converging resilient arms 12 which are pivotally connected at their upper extremities, as shown at 13, and between which ispivoted a hook le'providngsuspenslon means. These frames 10 are designed to be engageduponopposite sidesV of the'cuffs of trousers and are moved into clamping relation thereto by means of a ring 15 which is 'slidable upon the resilient arms 12. It is preferable that the lframes be covered between their-ends and the cross members 11v by strips 16 of 'anysuitable fabric which serves not onlyto protectthe cuffs but which also operate to hold them more firmly. This portion of the device is of course capable of use purely as a hanger. Associated withthese frames 10 are elongated members designated broadly by the numeral 17 and which are arranged in ypairs and which' are designed to clampingly engage the front edges ofthe trouser legs so as to form creases therein. The membersl 'are of similar construction and each includes sections 19 and 20, each of which is formed from vsheet-metal having its longitudinal edges rolled to deine beads 21. Thev sections are connected by means ofrods 22 which are permanently'secured within the' beads of the section 2O and which slidably engage vwithinv the beads of the section 19. EachV section 19 is formed at its free end with a hook 23 adapted v'to be engaged upon the lower cross bar of the frame lOllwEachof the members 1 8' consists of two sectionslli and 25' which'are exactly the sameV as the ly angularfpositiomvasindicated, to correspendA to the shape'of trouserlegs, The' upper ends of the sections 24'are formed with lower` members' of'the frames 10.
sections 19 and 20 except that their meeting y Vends are inclined, as shownat 26, so that when assembled they will assume aslight-` merely necessary to slide the hooks 23 and 27 along the frames 10. The desired adjustment is maintained by means ot bars 23 pivcted at one end, as shown at 29, and having their other ends formed with notches 30 engageable with small hooks 31.
In order that the two members 17 may be clamped upon the front edge of trousers and that the two members 13 may be likewise clamped upon the rear edge, I make use or a plurality of clamping devices which are located at spaced intervals along these members and each of which includes a resilient plate 32 formed: at onevend andV also inter-y beads at the edgesot the elongated mem-` bers, and it is intended that the exact formation besuch that the plates 32, while being removable from the members, will ordinarily remain thereon, owing to the specific interengagement of the beads. @ne end or' the plate 32 is bent to extend laterally, as shown at 311, and has its extremity again bent, as shown at 375, so as to extend partially to the face of the associated elongated member. The second mentioned extremity of the plate is slotted to define a bifurcation within which is pivoted, as shown at 36, a locking lever 37 having a cam head 38 engageable with the plate 39 disposed against the beads of the elongatedmember at the side thereoic opposite that.
upon which the plate 32 is disposed. rIhe plate 39 is slotted for the passage 'of the arm 34.
In the use of the device the legs of the trousers to be pressed are brought together in the usual manner and the cutis are engaged between the frames 10 which are then clamped together by sliding the ring 15 toward the frames. The members 17 and 18 are then adjusted with respect to the frames so that they will be the proper distance apart to engage the front and baclr edges of the trousers so as to form the de sired crtases' therein. One member 17 and one member 18 must of course be swung out of the way to permit the trousers to be laid upon thc others, after which they are swung back and held in clamping engagement with the trousers by means of the clamping devices which are disposed at proper intervals, as clearly shown in Figures 1 and e. When the locking levers are swung to bring the cam heads 3S firmly into engagement with the plates 39, it will be quite apparent that considerable pressure' will be exerted upon the trousers vso that after they have been left in my device fora few hours, for instance over night, they will be efficiently stretched into their proper shape and also creia-Sed. i
From the foregoing description and a study Yof the drawings it will be apparent that l have thus provided a simply constructed and consequently inexpensive all metallic device by which trousers may be easily stretched, pressed and creased with remarkably little diliculty and without re-.
quiring any attention other than the initial engagement of the device upon the trousers. It is also to be noted that portions of the device may be disconnected when desired Aso that the remaining part may be used as ay hanger. It is also to be noted that I have provided ample adJustment for taking care or" variations 1n trouser sizes.
While I have shown and describedy ythe y soli.,
1. In a deviceof the character described, i
clamping members adapted to be engaged? upon the superposed cults of a pair of `trousers, two pairs of elongated members carried by said clamping members ,and engageable.Y respectively with the front and back edges of the trousers, and clamping membersror holding each pairof elongated .members upon the trousers, each consisting of a U-shaped member having one arm dlsposed againstk one side ot the superposed elongated members and having its other arm spaced from and parallel with the other side of said superposed elongated members, a plate disposed against said second named side and formed with a slot through which passes the bight portion of the U-shaped member, and a locking lever pivoted upon the free-end of said last named arm and having ay cam head cngageable with the plate.
2.y Clamping means for holding together a pair ot strips, consisting of a plate meme ber of angular formation including an arm disposed against one side of the engaging strips and further including a second arm spaced away from the otherl side ot' the engaging strips, a plate disposed against'saidf kother side of the engaging strips and formed with an opening for the passage of the angu` lar port-ron of said plate, and a locking .lever pivoted upon the free end of said second named arm and. having a cam head engaging the second named plate.
3. In a garment stretcher and presser, two pair of elongated members provided with clamping means, one pair of members being adapted edge of a pair of trousers andthe otherpair being adapted for engagement upon ille rear edge Yof the trousers, said first named members being straight throughout their length and they second namedpair having a portion angularly deflected whereby to correspond to the shape/ot the trouser legs.
