MAILING TUBE.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOHN A. Annnnroxr, a citizen of the United States, residing at Akron, in the county of Summit and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Im provements in Mailing Tubes, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to mailing tubes and similar containers, the invention residing particularly in a new and novel means for closing the ends of such tubes.

Objects of the invention are to provide a strong, serviceable tube, the ends of which may be quickly, easily and securely closed and which will be easily and quickly opened and consequently more convenient than tubes now in use.

Another object is to provide a closure means for the tube which may be securely sealed and which may be opened without damage to the closure means, tube or the article contained therein so that the tube may be used indefinitely.

The above and other objects are accomplished by the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts herein described and shown in the accompanying drawings in which I have illustrated a preferred embodiment of the invention, it being understood that changes may be made and modifications resorted to which come within the scope of the claim hereunto appended.

Proceeding now to a detailed descriptio of the invention as illustrated in the accompanying drawings, the numeral 5 denotes the main body of the tube, the numeral 6 denotes a flexible tube which is pasted or otherwise secured over each end of the tube 5 so as to project beyond the end thereof. The outwardly projecting end of the flexible tube 6 is turned backinside itself and securely held in this position by the stitching 7, thus providing a hem S. The said hem 8 is provided with an opening 9 into which a draw string 10 is passed so as to extend longitudinally through the hem 8, the same being brought outwardly through the opening 9. One end of the draw string is passed through the loop 13 in the slip clasp 11 and the other end of the string 10 is passed through the loop 12 in said clasp; Both ends of said string 10 are brought together and passed through an eyelet 14 in the shipping tag 15 and are secured therein by the knot 16 which secures the free ends of the string 10 together. The said slip clasp comprises a strip of metal or other suitable material having its ends rolled back upon itself to form two parallel tubes or loops12 and 13. I V V In use, one end of the tube is opened as shown in Figure 1, the desired article is placed therein andthe string 10 is drawn through. the clasp 11, thus closing the endv of the tube as shown in Figure 2.1 A knot 17 is then tied in the string 10 so as to hold the clasp 11 againstthe hem S and thus secure the flexible portion 6 in a-closed posit-ion.

If desiredf'the clasp 11 may be made of relatively soft material, such as lead, in which case it can be secured against sliding movement by compression, thus forming a seal.

While I have shown and described a tube having a flexible projecting end 6, it is to be understood that oneend of the tube may be closed in any suitable manner and the flexible portion 6 applied to the other end thereof.

' Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent iszy In a device of the class described in combination, a tube, a flexible extension secured to the end thereof, a string slidingly fixed around the free end of said extension so that the end of the tube may be closed by drawing the said extension together, a ship ping tag secured to the free end of said string and a clasp slidably mounted on said herein set forth.
