BRICK-PAVERS BRIDGE.
g Application led June 27,
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that l, OLIVER W. GATCHELL,
. citizen of the UnitedStates, residing at Greensboro, in the'county of Guilford and State of North Carolina, have invented a new and useful Brick-Pavers Bridge, of
which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to bridges or supports especially designed for use in layll ing bricks or the like, the primary object of the invention being to provide a support to overlie the unpaved road surface, thereby supplying a foot rest for the person laying bricks to enable the workman to straddle 13 his work, resting one foot on the bridge, while his other foot rests on the portion of brick already laid.
Another object of the invention is to provide a support or bridge of this character tizi) which may be easily moved over the road bed. v
A still further object of the invention is to provide an adjustable bridge so that the same may be employed in connection with l5 road beds of various widths.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in thecombination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without 35 departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawings:
Figure 1 is an elevational view disclosing a portable bridge or support as positioned on the curbs of a roadway.
Figure 2 is an enlarged fragmental elevational view disclosing one end of the bridge.
Figure 3 is a plan View disclosing one end of the bridge. Y
Figure 4 is an elevational view disclosing a modified form of the invention.
Figure 5 is a plan view disclosing one end of the bridge.
Figure 6 is a sectional view taken on line 50 6-6 of Figure 1.
Figure 7 is a plan View disclosing one end of the extension and manner ofV connecting the same, with one of the bridge heads.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the
55 device includes a body portion 5 formed of 1922. jsei-iai No. 571,202,
any' suitable material, it being preferred however to construct the body portion of angle bar material, the same being curved upwardly bringing the surface of the bridge on an equal plane with the road surface which hasbeen laid.
One end of the body portion is cut away as at 6 to provide a clearance for the rollers 7, a portion of the bottom member of the angle bar extending beyond one end of the body 5 as at 8. rlhe Yextreme end of the member 8 extends upwardly as at 9 where the sameis formed with suitable openings to accommodate the pintles 10 of the rollers 7, while a portion of the vertical member of the body portion or angle bar 5 extends inwardly where the same is formed with openings to accommodate the pintles of the rollers 7.
The opposite end of the body portion 5 is supplied with an adjustable section 12 which is also formed of an angle bar cu-t away to accommodate the rollers 13, which rollers have pintles let and 15 respectively. The pintles 14C extend through suitable o-penings in the inwardly extended portion 16 of the extension, while the pintles 15 extend through openings in the upwardly extended portion 17 formed integral with the extension. This angle bar 12 is formed with a plurality of spaced elongated openings 18, which openings accommodate the bolts 19 that are carried by tlhe body portion 5, suitable nuts 20 being positioned on the bolts 19 to secure the body portion 5 and extension together.
Bolts 21 extend through the contacting members of the angle bars as clearly shown by Figure 2 of the drawings, whereby the body portion and extension are further held against displacement. From the Aforegoing itwill be seen that by adjusting the member 12 with respect to the body, rollers which support the bridge may be adjusted with respect to each other adapting the bridge for use with roadways wherein the curbingg are supported at various distances apart.
In the form of the invention as shown by Figure t of the drawings, the body portion of the bridge is indicated at 22 and is shown as curved upwardly bringing the surface of the bridge in a plane equal to the plane of the road surface which has been laid. Heads 23 are supported at the ends of the body portion 22, which heads are formed with suitable bearings to accommodateV the rollers 24v that rest on the curb-V ings 25.

wider at Curves. Y
From the foregoingit will be seen that Ihave provided a portable bridge which may be used in road construction, the bridge being of such a construction as to permit a person laying bricks to straddle his work,
thereby eliminating the necessity of a person turning his body to Ypick up the bricks Havingl thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is 1;' In a device of the el'lara-icterdescribed,V
anbody portion including an angle bar, an
extension inthe form of an angle bar po#y jsitioned under the body portion and ad- "justably secured thereto, and rollers at theY end ofthe body portion. Y

a body portion, heads supported at the ,ends of the body portion, Aan extension securedto one of the heads, means under thcfbodyv portion to supportv the weight ofr the body -portion, and rollers carried by the heads.V
3. In a device ofthe character described, av body Vportion including` an angleba'r, an angle 4bary extensionVv positionedunder; vthe body portion and having a plurality of elongated `openings-bolts carriedrby the bodyl portion and disposed within the openingsV to adjust the extension with respect-.to the bodyrportion, nuts i'or holding the eXtension in its positions of adjustment, and roll-I ers mounted 'at the ends of the Ybody portio'nfi 'Y Intestimony that I claimy the Jforegoing nature in the presence of two witnesses.
