Be it known that I, MURRAY L. BRUCE, a. citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Milan, in the county of Ripley and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Improvement in a Transmission Band, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to the type of transmission band that is used onautomobiles.

An object of my invention is to provide a band of the type referred to, which may be *asily, conveniently and quickly mounted about the transmission drum of motor veliicle.

Another object of my invention is to provide a band which may be readily removed from the casing surrounding the transmission drum without dismantling the entire casing.

These and other objects are attained by means described herein and disclosed in the accompanying drawing, in which:

The circular band 3 comprises a single integral strip. The ends t 5 of the band have substantially U shaped formed in them, the base of the taped slit extending transversely of the band, anl the branches of the slits extending substantially parallel with the side cdges'ot band, away from the ends of the band carrying said slits. 20 and 21 of which a coupling bolt 22 may extend. The coupling bolt carries the usual spring 23 and nut 24, and is adapted to be connected with suitable control levers as is connnon in the art. The pairs of lugs on theends at the band are spaced at such distance that each of the lugs may be inserted thi'u an individual slot 18 in one of the ears. and the free ends of the lugs are spaced from the band at a distance substantially equal to the thickness of the ears immediately to the rear and adjacent of the slots 18 in the ears.

The ears are mounted on the band by passing the lugs thru the slots in the ears, and then movingthe ears rotatively about the band in directions opposite to those in which the lugs engaging the respective ears extend. The relative movements of the band and ears are continued until the rear walls of the several slots .8 engage. the respective lug extending thru said slots. at the forward or upper ends of the lugs, in other words, at those places where the lugs adjoin the band. In order to remove the ears from the band, the proceeding is reversed. When it is desired to remove a band embodying: my invention from about the drum upon which the band is adapted to operate, either or both of the cars will be removed from the band and the band may then be rotatably actuated in order to separate the band the drum.
