Description

F. WHITE.
Sharpening-Machines. B10147297 Patente'dFeb.10,1874.
f /W Vf UNITED STATES PATENT OEErcE.v
FRANK WHITE, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO POST 8a OO., OF SAME PLAGE.
IMPROVEMENT IN SHARPENlNG-MACHINES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 147,297, dated February l0, 1874; application file December 13, 1873.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK WHITE, of Gincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devicesl for Holding Knives, Sac., in the Process of Grinding; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and eX- act description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification.
My invention relates to a device for holding planing-knives, 85e., in the process of grinding; and consists of the devices as hereinafter set forth and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure l is a view in perspective of my machine. Fig. 2 is a central vertical section of the same; and Fig. 3 is a back view of the machine, showing the knife in position.
A is an obtuse angular frame, pivoted upon set-screws a. B is a draw-bar, to which are secured the fasteningbutton. b, the Shanks of which project through holes 1n the plate A and the draw-bar B, an'd are provided on their front ends with screw-threads, upon which are run the milled thumbnuts O. By running these thumb-nuts on or off, the lugs or buttons are made to project a less or greater distance through the plate A, in order to accommodate a thick or thin blade; Through the center of the draw-bar B runs the milled headed screw D, which impin ges upon the plate/ A and draws the bar B forward,` which in turn draws the lugs or buttons b tightly against the blade E, and thus/secures itin position to be ground.
The bevel to which the plate is to be ground is regulated by the tilting-screw iF, which passes through the plate A and ilnpinges upon the bed. The blade E is provided with slots c, or their equivalents, by which it may be slipped over the buttons b.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure bly Letters Patent, is-
l. The angular plate A, provided with the draw-bar B, buttons b, set-screw C, and tiltingscrew F, the whole mechanism poised upon the set-screw pivots a, substantially as shown and described.
2. The combination of the draw-bar B, buttons b, and set-screw D, substantially as and for the purpose described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 11th day of December, 1873.
