H. B. COOK CABLE EQUALIZER Filed Dec. l, 1922- lli-I f Patented @ch 30, 1923.
UNHTEU STATES HOWARD B. COOK, 0F NORWOOD, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO THE WARNER ELEVATOR MANU- FACTURING COMPANY, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO, A CORPORATION 0F OHIO.
CABLE EQUALIZER.
Application led December 1, 1922. Serial No. 604,138.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, HOWARD B. COOK, a citizen of the United States, and residing at Norwood, in the county of Hamilton and -State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Cable Equalizers, of which the following specification is a full disclosure.
This invention relates to a device for equalizing the strains upon a plurality ofy ther objects and certain advantages will appear in a description of the drawing, in which drawing:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of my device as applied to the top rail of an elevator.
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the structure of Fig. l, parts being broken away for purposeV of clearer illustration.
Figure 3 is a transfer section on line 3 3, Fig. 2.
The numeral 1 designates the drawhead ot an elevator frame, only a portion of the traine being herein illust-rated. The drawhead, as herein shown, is composed of two channel irons attached at their opposite ends to vertically disposed channel irons 2, disposed intermediate of the channel irons 1. The elevator frame structure, however, forming no part of this invention. Pivoted respectively to bearing pins 3, 4, supported by and engaged between the channel irons l of the drawhead, are two levers, 5, 6, each ot unequal arm length, the corresponding arms of each lever being of equal length, the respective short arms thereof being opposingly disposed, and the bearing pins of said levers disposed in the same horizontal plane. Each lever is formed of two plates spaced apart by suitable spacing collars traversed by bolts for clamping the plates together. The levers swing on the bearing pins centrally between the drawhead channel irons 1. Links or drawbars, respectively, 7, 8, are pivoted as at 9, 10, to the short arms of the respective levers 5, 6. Links 11, 12, are respectively pivoted as at 13 to the outer extremities of the long arms of said levers. The respective extremities of the links 11, 12, are pivoted also at 15 to corresponding opposite extremities of a shackle, doubletree, walking beam or lever 14, as a connector member. The shackle, doubletree or lever, or connector member 14 is of two-plate construction, the plates ixedly spaced apart, as in the case of the levers 5, 6, by suitable spacers traversed by clamping bolts. Ceintrally of the lever, shackle or connector member 14 and between the plates thereof is pivoted as at 16 a third drawbar 17, which extends upwardly, and parallel with the drawbars 7, 8. The upper end of each of the drawbars 7, 8 and 17, is provided with a forked or yoke head 18, which is pivoted at 20 centrally to a single tree-.or lever 25,
at the outer extremities of which and disposed symmetrically at each side of the pivot are pivoted as at 29 forked cable sockets 27, each having a cable 28 attached thereto. Thus a pair of spaced cables pivotally connect with each drawbar. 'ln order that the cables may be symmetrically and compactly arranged and aligned crosswise of the drawhead in correspondence to the disposition of grooves of the winding drum, (not shown) or gmoved pulley over which the cables travel, the equal-armed levers or single trees of the drawbars 7, 8 and 17, are disposed in non-parallel relation with respect to the lower set of levers 5, 6 and connector member 14. The equal-armed levers or single trees 25 on the bars 7 and 8 are disposed in mutually parallel relation, and the lever or single tree 25 of the bar 17 is disposed at a higher elevation and at an angle thereto, and also in non-parallel relation with the lower set of levers. This, arrangement allows for convenient symmetrical grouping of the cables, and has been found to be particularly advantageous as applied to sircable elevator suspension.
Having described my invention, lt claim:
1. n combination with a drawhead, comprising spaced beams, of equalizing elements pivoted between said beams, links attached to the exremities of said equalizing elements, a shackle connecting non-adjacent links, ad
jacent links extending through said shackle, a link tattached to said shackle centrally thereofV and of said adjacently disposed links, equalizing elements attached to each of said adjacently disposed links, and means for connecting a cable to opposite extremities of each equalizingl element of the said adjacently disposed links.
