low pressure cylinders; the cylinders beingv arranged in pairs comprising a high pres` sure cylinder and a low pressure cylinder and the low pressure cylinders being inclined relative to the high pressure cylinders; a steam chest between each pair of cylinders; a horizontal slide valve for each steam chest for controlling each pair oi' cylinders; a tirst pair of driving wheels coupled on a straight axle; a second pair of driving` wheels coupled on the outer ends of a cranked axle; rods connecting theV pistons ot the high pressure cylinders and the exterior sides of the second pair ot driving wheels; rods connecting the pistons oit the low pressure cylinders and said cranked axle; and rods connecting the first and second pairs of drivingwheels on the exterior sides ot the wheels intermediate of the exterior ot said wheels and the connecting rods oi the admission cylinders; allV of said connecting rods on each side of the locomotive being movable in unison. In a locomotive the combination ot', a frame tor the locomotive; and a pilot truck comprising wheels coupled on an axle, a spring parallel to said axle` suspended on the frame of the locomotive adjacent to theV middle of said axle, and inwardly inclined dependent rods converging' towards their lower ends secured at their upper ends to the bearings of said wheels on the inner sides thereof, the lower endsot said rods passing truck comprising wheels coupled on an axle,

a frame ot the locomotive; a pilot truck comprising wheels coupled on an axle, 'boxes for said axle, a spring parallel to said axle suspended on the trame ofthe locomotive adjacent to the middle yof saidaxle, inwardly inclined dependent rods secured at their upper ends to the bearings ot said wheels on the inner sides thereof, the lower ends ot said rods passing through the outer ends or said spring and permitting movement or" said outer ends on saidbrackets, nuts tor the lower ends ot said rods on the under side of said spring; and lever arms, the lever arms at one of their ends rocking on the boxes of said axle and at the other of their ends being movably connected to said trame ot the locomotive.

In a multiple cylinder locomotive the combination of, high pressure cylinders; low pressure cylinders; the cylinders beingarranged in pairs comprising a high prersure cylinder and a low pressure cylinder; a single valve ior controlling eachv pair of cylinders;and means appurtenant to each of the high pressure -cylinders 'for feeding additional live steam thereto at start-ing.
29. In a multiple cylinder locomotive the combination of, high pressure cylinders;
low pressure cylinders; the cylinders being cylinders; and means located substantially midway longitudinally of each of the high pressure cylinders at the top thereof for feeding additional live steam thereto at starting. l

In a multiple cylinder locomotive the combination' of, high pressure cylinders; low pressure cylinders; the cylinders being arranged in pairs comprising a high pressure cylinder and alow pressure cylinder, the low pressure cylinder of each pair being inclined relative to the high pressure cylinder; a single valve for controlling each pair oi" cylinders; and means appurtenant to each of the Vhigh pressure cylinders for feeding additional live steam thereto at starting.

a frame of the locomotive; a pilot truck l" comprising wheels coupled on an axle, a spring parallel to said axle suspended on the frame of the locomotive adjacent to the middle of said axle, inwardly inclined dependent rods secured at their upper ends to the bearings of said wheels on the inner sides thereof, the lower ends of said rods passing through the outer ends of said spring,and nuts for the lower ends of said rods on the under side of said spring; and buffers on the front of the locomotive c0- operating with said rods whereby upon contact of the buffers with an object the tendency is to bring the locomotive in the middle of the track. v
