To all whom it may concern: 7
Be it known that I, REA P. WRIGHT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Washington, in the city of Washington, District of Columbia, have invented certain new and. useful Improvements in Pressure Releases for Clothes Wringers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in clothes wringers and more particular to means for releasing the pressure automatically on the abnormal separation of the rolls; the object being to provide a positiverelease in which the rotation of the driving gears of tuates the releasing members.
Another and further object of the invention is to provide a device which is exceedingly simple and cheap in construction and one which can be readily applied to the ordinary construction of clothes wringer now in use.
Other and further objects and advantages of the invention will be hereinafter set forth and the novel features thereof defined by the appended claims.
In the drawings:
the rolls ac- Figure 1 is a side elevation of a clothes wringer showing the application of my improved construction of pressure release thereto;
Figure 2 is an end view of the same; and
Figure 3 is a detailed view partly in section showing the manner of constructing the lower end of the pressure releasing member.
Like numeral of reference refer to like parts in the several figures of the drawing.
In carrying out my invention I employ a wringer of the ordinary construction which comprises a frame 1 having slotted side bars in which are mounted superposed pressure rolls 2 and 3 carried by shafts 4 and 5 provided with meshing gears 6 and 7, one of said shafts being adapted to be driven by any suitable means.
The pressure rolls are held under tension by pressure means comprising the usual pressure springs 8 and pressure bar 9, the latter being engaged by pressure screws 10 carried by a top bar 11 movably mounted within the slotted side bars. By adjusting the pressure screws the tension on the pres- A," assrenoal'ro Jenni sure rolls canbe adjusted through the pres-v sure means in the ordinary manner.
Secured to each of the side bars of the frame is a bearing plate 12 which extends across the slot thereof and is provided with a stud shaft 13 on,which is pivotally mounted a lever 14 which is provided with a hook portion 15 at its upper end adapted to engage a pin 16 carried by the end of'the movably mounted top bar 11 for holding the top bar in a predetermined position in order to allow the pressure to be maintained and adjusted on the pressure rolls. a
The lower end of the lever 14 is slotted as shown at 17 through which extends a pin 18 carried by a cap 19 which is held in position as shown in Figs. 2 and 3 by a pring 20 in order to provide a yielding contact portion for the lever so that when the gear is moved upwardly by the abnormal separations of the roll, the lever will be prevented from being injured. The normal position of the lever 14 is out of a vertical plane so that the same extends obliquely across the slot and to one side of the center of the gear. When a foreign object is drawn between the rolls so asto separate the same abnormally, the gear 7 is moved upwardly and as the same is being constantly rotated the teeth thereof engage the cap of the lever and rock the lever on its pivot 13 so as to move the hook portion 15 out of engagement with the pin 16 carried by the movably mounted top bar in order to release the pressure from the pressure rolls.
While I have shown a yielding member carried by the lever this is not essential, as by mounting the lever obliquely the gear will engage the same in such a manner as to swing the lever on its pivot as the same is rotating.
I claim: a
1. A clothes wringer,.comprising a frame having pressure rolls and pressure means for said rolls mounted therein, a top bar movably mounted in said frame having means for adjusting said pressure means.
gears carried by said pressure rolls, and" levers mounted on the side bars of said frame for holding said top bar in predeterrained position within said frame, said levers being engaged by the gears of the movable pressure roll on the abnormal separation of said rolls for causing said levers to be oscillated by the rotation of said gears for releasing said top bar.
2. A clothes Wringer, comprising a frame having pressure rolls and pressure means for said rolls mounted therein, a top bar movably -mounted in said frame, levers said levers being provided with movable members, said qmovablemembers being engaged by the gears of the movable pressure roll on the abnormal separation of said rolls for causing said levers to be moved out-of engagement with said top bar by the rocation of said gears.
Intestimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature.
a REA P. WRIGHT.
