Description
@m. 9, 11923. ILAWAEE c. M. ABBOTT DISPENSING DEVICE Filed Dec. 15 1919 Fatenteoll @ct. 119233.
to rr CRLES Illl. tilBBOTT, 0F WATERTOWN, MAFZLIACHUSETTS.
TDIQJPENSING DEVICE.
Application filed. December 15, 1919. Serial No. El i-5,017.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES M. AnBo'r'r,
a citizen of the United States, residing at- Watertown, county of Middlesex, Commonwealth of Massachusetts, havef'invent'ed certain new and useful Improvements in Dispensing Devices, of which the fo,llowing is a specification.
' This invention relates to "containers for unguents, salves, pastes and like materials.-
In dispensing preparations of this class the material is usually packaged in jars or similar open mouthed containers from which it is scraped by the finger tip forapplication to parts of the body or other use. While this practice is so old and so common as to have become habitual in all classes, it is obvious upon slight consideration that it is not only a wasteful manner of utilization, but is an untidy and unsanitary procedure.
My invention relates to a simple form of dispenser in which the material is presented as desired in a shallow cup and from which it may be removed by the finger without contact with the rest of the contents of the package. l/Vhile my invention is capable of a great variety of embodiments and uses, I have selected as an illustrative example, a form well adapted to the use of salves, pastes or like preparations, which are conveniently applied digitally.
In the form shown, I furthermore employ in my illustrative embodiment a package of the familiar collapsible tube type, inasmuch as such package afiords convenient combination and as one of standard acceptability. In illustrating this form of my invention in the accompanying drawings, I have shown it in the following views:
Fig. I a side view of package with cap in place.
Fig. II a central vertical section through the head.
Fig. III an end elevation of the package.
Fig. IV a diagrammatic "iew indicating the use of the head cup, and Fig. V is a'view of the cup face with indicated use.
Nhere employed in the package such as is herein shown, I form a head 1 having the usual external thread 2 for the engagement of an internally threaded cap 3. The head is mounted on the neck 4 of any collapsible tube 5. In the upper face of the head 1 is a spherical concavity 6 which is transversely slotted as at 7 through the head and into communication with the neck 4.
In ractice the cap 3 having been re more the tube 5 is slightly compressed to force a thin transversely disposed ridge of the salve or other content through the slot 7 through the wall of the finger cup 6. From the cup 6 the salve may be conveniently removed as a thin uniform film on the end of the finger tip or cloth or absorbent cotton as may berequired.
It will be noted that by such a device only a small amount of the material is presented at any one time a-nd'is so presented that the finger is not brought into contact with the body of the material at all. The transverse slot 7 lying as it does diametrically across the cup 6 presents the material uniformly and transversely over a considerable area as the finger is wiped through the cup. The cap 3 is preferably provided on the under side of its top wall with a convex or rounded portion 3, Fig. IV, conforming in curvature to the concavity 6 and adapted upon application of the cap to the lilead 1 to enter said concavity and seal the s 0t 7.
Obviously the form of the cup maybe varied,.the slots increased or modified and the nature of the container proper infinitely varied, and all such modifications are understood to be within my invention if. within the limits of the appended claims.
What I therefore claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a container for an unguent or the like, a delivery nozzle having a concave finger portion provided witha transverse slot in the bottom thereof communicating with the interior of'the container for delivering into said concave portion a broad thin ribbon of material which may be progressively taken up beneath the finger nail a the finger is wiped through said concave portion, and a closure for said delivery hav ing a rounded portion conforming to and adapted to enter the concavity of said finger portion and seal said slot.
2. A dispenser, comprising a collapsible reservoir having an externally threaded head provided with a concaved fingerv portion and with a slot through said concavity and communicating with the reservoir for deliveringinto said finger portion a broad thin ribbon of material which may be pro- Nil.
gressively taken up beneath the finger nail as the finger is wiped through said concavity, and aninternally threaded cap engageable with the threads of said head.
3. A dispenser, comprising a collapsible reservoir having an externally threaded head provided with a concaved finger portion and with a slot through said concavity and communicating with the reservoir for delivering into said finger portion a broad thin ribbon of material which may be progressively taken upbeneath the finger nail as the finger is wiped through said concavity, and an internally threaded cap engageable with the threads of said head and having a convex inner surface conforming 4 to and adapted to enter said concavity of the head and seal the slot.
4Q The combination with a delivery nozzle having a concaved face transversely slotted I through the bottom thereof, of a closure having a convex portion conforming to and adapted to enter said concavity and seal said slot.
In testimony whereof I alf'uz my signature 25
