Be it known that I, JACOB AUBULLER, a citizen of the United States of America, and resident of Miffiinburg, in the county of Union and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pipe-Lifting Implements, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to well tube pulling apparatus and particularly to a manually operated device intended to lift pipe and retain it in its advanced elevation While the lifting device is adjusted for further manipulation for imparting further movement to the pipe.
It is an object of this invention, therefore to provide a lifting device and a holding device of the same general structure, in so far as the pipe gripping elements are concerned; and the said invention has for an object the provision of novel means whereby the gripping elements may be manipulated expeditiously and wherein the cost of manufacture is comparatively small.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists in the details of construction, and in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed.

The handle bar 5 is secured between plates or check pieces 10 and 11 by fasteninas 12 such as rivets or the like, and the said cheek pieces are therefore rigid with the handle bar 5. The handle bar 6 has an aperture 13 to receive a pin 14 constituting a pintle on which the handle barb is oscillatable, and the said pin is supported by the cheek pieces, fully shown in. the drawing,
If desired, a flexible member 15 may connect the pin to the handle bar in order that the pin will be prevented from being lost or misplaced.
In operation, the handle bar 6 is removed from the pintle, leaving a clearance between the cheek pieces for the pipe, and after the handle bar 5 has been applied to the pipe with the cheek pieces on opposite sides thereof, the handle bar 6 is installed, and the device is then ready for operation.
There is a coacting pipe supporting device which is of the same general construction as that of the lifting device, comprising the body 16 that corresponds to the handle bar 5, and an oscillatable element 17 that corresponds with the handle bar 6, and these ele- 'ments are provided withjawslS and 19.

The element 16 has a cross arm or bar 20 which is to be supported on a sill or on beams or the like, whereas the member 17 has a cross armor bar 21 which is preferably provided with a rounded lower surface in order that it will rock slightly to allow the member 17 to oscillate as the pipe is elevated, thus causing the release of the jaws from the pipe while it is being elevated, 90 yet being, in position to immediately grip the pipe when it has reached the limituof its upward step.
By the useof these two gripping devices,
that is to say, the manually operated one V and the one that supports the pipe, two operators may apply force to the elements 5 and 6 to lift the pipe, and: after it is lifted,
it will be held by the enacting: device while the manually operated gripping; device is being lowered fora repetition of the operation.
I claim: In a pipe lifting element, a handle bar having a jaw, cheek pieces secured to the said handle bar and projecting from the in ner end thereof beyond the jaw and adapted to embrace a pipe, ahandle pivotally in ounted on the said cheek pieces and extending in a direction opposite to the handle bar, a jaw on the handle coacting; with the first mentioned jaw to hold a pipe, means for pivotally mounting the second mentioned to "the said check pieces,-a coacting' apparatus adapted to clamp a pipe'comprising a rigid body having a cross arm adapted to support the body cheek pieces extending beyond the inner ends of the body, av jaW attached to 5 the said bodyandr lying between the cheek pieces, an oscillatable element mounted between the outer ends of the cheek pieces and having a jaw coa cting With the jaw of the body, and a cross arm having a rounded surface constituting a rocker on which the oscillatable element is supported When in operative position, substantially as described.
