HAT HOLDER.
Y Applicationled September 27, 1922.. Serial No. 580,93.
State of Viisconsin, have invented certain new and useful mprovements in a Hat Holder', of which the following is a specication.
The present invention relates to a hat holder and has for its principal objectto provide means whereby a hat may be readily supported on the back of a chair, churchpew or in any other suitable place.
Another important object of theV invention is to generally improve upon devices of this nature by providing a holder which will be extremely simple and efficient in construction, reliable in operation, comparatively inexpensive to manufacture, durable, and well adapted to the purpose for which it 1s desi ned.
ith the above and -numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description progresses, theinvention resides in certain novel features of construction, and the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawing z- 1 Figure 1 is a front elevation of the hat holder embodying my invention, and
Figure 2 is a vertical longitudinal section taken therethrough.
Referring to the drawing in detail will be seen that 1 designates the fixed member which is formed from a single sheet of material having its upper end bent over upon its body as at 2 and this overhanging portion is provided with a notch 3 in its edge. This xed member is reduced intermediate its ends forming a lower portion 4 and an upper portion Suitable fastening means 6 penetrate the upper portion 5 and similar means 7 penetrate the end of the lower portion 4. On the lower portion 4 adjacent the upper portion 5 there are situated a pair of ears 9 which are apertured and bent at right angles to the plate.
A movable orV fulcrumed plate 10 is formed with a pair of angularly extendingr ears 11 which are also pierced so that a pin 12 may be passed: therethrough and also through the ears 9.V The lower end of the fulcrum plate 10 is curved toward the fixed plate 1 as at 13. A coil spring 14 is disposed about the pin 12 and providedrwith a Y lng ready mediate its ends, a movablemember having finger 15 adapted to bear against the upper l portion 5 of the lplateland at its other end with another finger 16 :adapted to bear against the upper'portion of the plate 10, 60 thereby holding the curved portion 17 normally in engagement with. the ylower portion 4 of the .plate 1. This lower portion 4 of the plate 1 is provided with acurved or Y raised projection 17 situated so as to be 65 vsituated immediately above theend of the curved portion 13 of theplate 10. The dotted line structure 18 represents the portion of they Yhat and shows how the same would be supported by the hat holder.
v The overhanging portion of the iXed member partially encases the upper end ofV the movable orfulcrumed plate 10 thereby protecting the same and likewise preventing objects from coming into contact therewith such as articles of clothing which might become torn by the upper end'of the fulcrumed plate and the notch 311s provided therein so that readyaccess may be had to the upper end of the fulcrum plate for operation thereof. ,y
lt is thoughtthat the constructionand oper-ation of the invention will now be j readily understood without a more detailed description, but it is to be understood that numerous changes in the details of construction and in thev combination and 'arrange-v ment of parts may be resorted to without departing lfrom the scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed. Y Y
Having thusjdescribed my invention, what` I claim as new is s 1. A hat. holder including a Vfixed member, a vfulcrum member mounted thereon, spring means disposed between the members so as to hold the lower end of the fulcrum member in engagement normally with the fixed member, and an overhanging extension with a notched terminal. provided on the top of the fixed memberl so as tooverhang the upper end of the fulcrum member for the purpose ofpreventingV objects from contacting therewith and the notchA allowaccess tothe fulcrum member for j operation thereof. v v Y 2. A hat holder ofthe class described including a xed member Vprovided with an f overhanging upper,v endhaving a notched terminal and pierced ears disposed inter-v pierced ears intermediate its ends, a pin passing through said pierced ears, a spring ,on said pin neld-ng a nger at each end proteeted` the-eby and needy eee-essbeing i0 lCTI Amally hold the lower end of Vsaid movable thereof, one of said lingers bearing against allowed thereto bythe Hotell; the Xed member and the othei' bearing In testimony whereof l ax my signature against the movableV member so as to noiin presence of two Witnesses. member in engagement with said fixed mem- Y l SAMUEL F' bei', the upper end ofsad movable mem- Witnesses Y bei' being disposed With-in the' oveihangng Semiwz,
upper end of the fixed member so as to be R. G., WILLIAMS.
