troit, in thecounty of lV-ayne and State or"- Michi 'an, hasinvented certain new anduse tul Improvements in Jigs for Marking and Drilling Fenders, of which the following-is a specification. I
This invention relates toL-a fender jig for marking and drillinglfenders in the process of construction. Automobile tenders are universally made by a stamping operation draw the crown in a tender it is-necessary to pinch the tender at the edges with what is usually called a draw ring. lThis requires the use of surplus metal that has to be trimmed oil. This trimming is done with an ordinary cutter and vthe work has to be guided through the cutterby the worlcn'an. Hence it is necessary to properly mark the fender-s0 that the workman will be able to cut this accurately. Furthermore, the tender is drilled so the holes act as guides for trimmingthe ends and punching the slots thru which it is attached to the wheel housmg.
It is the object of the present invention to provide a jig which will serve as amarking jig and also a drilling ji z This jig is also so formed that part of it maybe replaced to change the jig tor-similar tenders without having to build an ent rely new 11g.
In the drawings V Fig. 1 is a side elevation of the jig.
Fig.2 is an elevation in detail of one end showing the lock.
Fig. 3 is a plan view of the male memberr Fig. l is a cross section thru; the fixture and the rough fender.
Fig. 5 is a plan view of a crown fender after it has been drilled and marked.
Fig' 6 is a plan view of the female die.
a designates a casting which is the male member of the and which is provided with transverse ribs 6 which are the supporting surfaces for the underside of the tender. The female member of the is guided in vertical reciprocation on the rods c and can be raised or lowered by com pressed air through the instrumentality of the air cylinder and piston. The upper temale member is provided with the apron m and may be caused to descend'upon the ten- A sortot toggle clampfj the ends of the male member for clamping the-female member in place while the mark-1 ing and drilling operation is performed.
