Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Reversible Heating or Cooling Apparatus; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled'in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, panying drawings, erence marked thereon, specification. This invention relates to reversible heating and cooling apparatus, and the object and to the letters of refforming part of this thereof is to provlde means whereby a heat or cold bearing fluid is caused to flow through a plurality of tubes which extend through a chamber which contains the fluid to be heated or chilled, and in providing means within said chamber adapted to cause the fluid to be heated or chilled to flow in successive and alternate transverse directions with relation to said tubes as it progresses from the intake to the outlet of said chamber." To accomplish this I provide a hollow cylinder in which I place a series of discs transversely within the cylinder, these discs being provided with spiral flanges which space the discs apart. Each alternate disc is provided with a central opening, and the next adjacent disc has a portion of its periphery cut away thus forming a notch therein, so that the fluid to be heated or cooled passes through said notch and then in a spiral course to the central portion of the chamber, and then through the central opening in the next disc, and then in a spiral course to the outer porton of the chamber, and so on in alternately reversed spiral directionsuntil the exit from said chamber is reached.
These and other features of my invention will be hereinafter pointed out, and are illustrated in the accompanying drawings,

These discs B and B are provided with identical spiral flanges b on their adjacent faces, which space said discs apart as shown in Figure 1,'but also form spiral passages between said discs from the wall of the cylinder inwardly to its axis. 1
At each end of the cylinder A there are formed inlet and outlet openings at and a by means of which the fluid to be cooled or heated is introduced into' and discharged from the said cylinder.
The discs B which terminatethe series at each end of the cylinder are provided with a widened flange b which will space the first disc B at each end of the cylinder A sufliciently inward from theend thereof to provide a chamberinto which the inlet and dis I charge openings a and (1 enter.

Having thus fully described the construc tion'and operationof my invention, What I clann as new and deslre to secure by Letters Patent is:
1; In an apparatus of the class described, a casing having inlet and outlet openings at opposite ends thereof, a series of transverse Walls thereln, each alternate Wall having a. central opening therethrough and the other alternate Walls having a notch cut out of the perlphery, spiral flanges on the ad acent faces of said transverse Walls, a plurality of longitudinal tubes passing through said casing and through said transverse Walls and secured in plates at the ends of said cas ing and header chambers on the ends or" said casing covering the ends of said tubes.
