To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ALBERT MEADOWS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stove Fixtures or Door Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to stove door fixtures or hangers and has for its object a fiX- ture which will not only stiffen the door frame but which will form a suitable fulcrum on which the door arms may roll to give a hinging action. A. further object is to interpose a suitable spring resistance to the opening of the door to cushion the same when it descends.
Furthermore, a pair of these fixtures are so designed that they connect the upper and lower stove doors and form a unitary structure for not only reinforcing the stove front, but also to fulcrum the doors and cushion the doors in opening. These features will be better understood when the construction is described in detail.

Referring to Fig. 1, it will be seen that 1922. Serial No. 575,345.
the oven is provided with a door a and a broiler chamber with a door I). These doors are ordinarily supported on trunnion-like projections which are held in trunnion sockets formed by plates bolted to the oven frame. This construction is unsightly and furthermore the trunnion socket plates often get loose and make the action of the door sloppy.
It is the object of the present invention to provide a more effective support for the door. The front frame 0, (Fig. 5) is prefer ably a pressed steel piece, and stove bolts d are run through the front of this at a point where the stove door wings 10 will cover-the bolt heads when the door is closed. These bolts hold in place the fulcrum blocks 6 and also the angle bar uprights f. This angle bar f extends along the side of the lower door opening up to and slightly beside the other door opening as is shown in Figs. 3 and 4. It, therefore, serves to reinforce and strengthen the stove front construction. It carries the load of both doors. Nuts h and 2' bolt the fulcrum blocks, the angle bars f, and and the front frame 0 together. Furthermore, there is clamped between the fulcrum blocks and angle bar f, the turned in edge y of the side wall of the oven.
The fulcrum block 6 is shown in perspective in Fig. 6 and comprisesablock provided with an opening 70 and a stationary fulcrum roll m. A locating pin 91. is an integral part of this block casting and is adapted to protrude through the angle bar f as shown in Figs. 3 and 4, to properly locate the fulcrum block with respect to the other members.
An integral part of the door frame 0 is the hinge arm 29, which is part of the same casting. This hinge arm is curved and is provided with a stop or shoulder 9 adapted to engage against the point r on the inside of the angle bar to hold the door from open ing down below a horizontal position. The fulcrum block and upright angle bar 7 serves as strain resisting means at this point to resist any strains brought upon the structure by the open door.
The upright angle bar f is provided ith too a spring abutment s riveted thereto. A coiled compression spring is coiled around the rod a. This rod to is provided with a shoulder or abutment o, the end of the rod runs through the bent end of the hinge arm a: and is pivotally connected thereto. .When the broiler chamber door is open this hinge arm a rolls on the fulcrum roll at and the compression spring t tends to resist the upward movement of the rod u and thereby cushions the broiler chamber door.
The angle strip 3/ used on the opposite side of the oven and broiler chamber (see Fig. 2) serves in precisely the same way to reinforce the oven front frame and to hold the fulcrum blocks, on which the hinge arms roll, however, no rod 14 is required, but simply a tractile spring a which connects the upper hinge arm 7; with the lug Z stamped out of the angle bar. This tends to cushion the descent of the upper door.
What I claim is:
1. In stove construction, the combination 'of walls forming a chamber having an opening thereinto, a door for closing said opening, an upright bar removably secured to said Walls, a fulcrum block supported by the upright bar and including a fulcrum roll, a hinge arm supporting the door and arranged to turn on the fulcrum roll and a spring secured to one end of the upright bar and at the other end secured to the hinge arm to cushion the opening movement of the door.
2. In stove construction, the combination of a frame including a pair of openings, a pair of doors for closing the openings, an upright bar secured to the back of said frame and reinforcing said frame, a pair of fulcrum members supported by the upright bar, hinge arms secured to the doors and turning on the fulcrum members.
3. In stove construction, the combination of a frame including a pair of openings, a pair of doors for closing the openings, an upright bar removably secured to the back of the frame for reinforcing the frame, a pair of fulcrum members supported on the bar, a pair of hinge arms supporting the doors and turning on the fulcrum members, and a spring secured at one end to the one hinge arm and at the other end to the upright bar for cushioning the descent of the door.
4. In store construction, the combination of a frame including a pair of openings, a pair of doors for closing the openings, an
upright bar behind the frame and connected therewith, a pair of fulcrum blocks sup ported at opposite ends of the upright bar, a pair of hinge arms turnin on the fulcrum pieces and supporting the doors, and
i a spring anchored at one end of the upright bar and secured at the other end to one of the hinge arms to cushion the descent of the door supported by said hinge arm.
5. In stove construction, the combination of a frame including apair of openings,
an angle bar bolted to the back of the frame, a pair of fulcrum members secured to the angle bar, a pair of doors for closing the openings, a pair of hinge arms supporting the doors and turning on the fulcrum members and a spring anchored at one end of the angle bar and, secured at the other end to one hinge arm.
6. In stove construction, the combination of a frame including a pair of openings, a pair of upright bars on opposite sides of the openings, and secured behind the frame, a pair of fulcrum members supported by each bar, a pair of hinge arms secured to each door and turning on the fulcrum members, a tractile spring secured at one end to the end of the upright bar and at the other end to the end of one of the hinge arms, and a compression spring secured to the other upright bar at one end and connected at its opposite end with the end of one of the hinge arms on the other door.
7. In stove construction, the combination of a frame including a pair of openings, an upright bar located behind the frame and along side of the two openings, a pair of fulcrum members secured behind the frame between the frame and the upright bar, bolts and nuts for securing the frame, fulcrum members and upright bars together, doors for closing the openings in the frame, the hinge arms arranged to turn on the fulcrum members and supporting the doors.
8. In stove construction, the combination of a frame including an opening, a fulcrum block supported behind the frame, a slotted upright bar supported behind the fulcrum blocks, an hinge arm arranged to turn on the fulcrum block including a shoulder adapted to strike on the material surrounding the slot in the upright bar, through which the hinge arm functions in the opening movement of the hinge arm, and a door supported by the hinge arm.
9. In stove construction, the combination of a frame including an opening therein, a door for closing the opening, a fulcrum block supported behind the frame, an upright bar located behind the'fulcrum block, a nut and a stove bolt passing through the fulcrum block, the frame and the upright bar, an'oven wall having its edge turned in between the fulcrum block and upright bar clamped thereby when the bolt and nut are tightened together, and an hinge arm rolling upon the fulcrum block and supporting the stove door.
10. In stove construction, the combination of a channel-like frame including an opening, a fulcrum block supported behind the channel-like frame, an upright bar supported behind the fulcrum bar, an oven wall running along flush with the outer edge of the frame and turned in and pinched between the fulcrum block and upright bar, a bolt and nut for binding the frame, fulcrum block and upright bar together and for pinching the oven wall edge in between the same, an hinge arm turning on the fulcrum block, and a door supported by the hinge J10 arm and arranged to conceal the head of the bolt when the door is closed.
