NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
- JESSE S. KRUNER, OF BROOKVILLE, ASSIGNOR TO HENRY FABIAN, OF A TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA.
IMPROVEMENT IN MEDICAL COMPOUNDS OR TQNICS Specification forming part of Lettcrs Tatcnt No. 146,748, dated January 27, 1874; application filed July 9, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JEssE S. BRUNER, of Brookville, Hernando county, Florida, have invented a certain Compound Tonic, of which the following is a specification:
-This compound is intended to be used in habitual constipation, and as a corrective of all disorders of the stomach, liver, and bowels; an efiectual remedy for dyspepsia, indigestion, liver complaint, jaundice, nervous debility, chronic diarrhea, bilious colic, and all diseases arising from the derangement of the liver and impurities of the blood. It is a sure preventive of malarious fevers and yellow fever, if taken in time. a
V The nature of the invention consists in mixing and making a tincture of the following ingredients: Take extract of taraxacum, (alcoholic,) pulverized gen tian, pulverized Peruvian bark, leptandriu, and podophyllin with proof spirits, in the following proportions and manner, to wit:
Extract of taraxacum, one ounce gentianroot, pulverized, one half ounce; einchonia, pulverized, (Peruvian bark,) one-half ounce; leptandrin, one dram; podophyllin, ten grains; proof spirits, two pints; mac-crate fourteen days and filter, shaking occasionally.
Dose, for an adult, one dessert-spoonful three times a day, before eating; children, from ten (l0) drops to a teaspoonful.
This tonic will give appetite, assist digestion, cure dyspepsia, purify the blood, cure jaundice, liver complaint, nervous debility, chronic diarrhea, affections of the kidneys and bowels, and is a sure preventive of malarial fevers.
In dropsy, neiunlgia, rheumatic complaint, skin diseases, and all cases where cathartic and alterative medicines are required, this preparation is recommended, and, if taken in extra doses, say one to two table-spoonfuls, to
be repeated, if necessary, for an adult, and children in proportion, acts directly and specifically 011 the liver and bowels, and is a prompt, safe, and efiectual cathartic, removin g the bile and slime from the bowels, acting gently on the kidneys, arousing secretions of the skin, and imparting tone and vigor to the whole system, thus obviating the use of mercury, leaving the bowels in a solvent, healthy condition, without restriction to drink or diet, as is the case with mercury and other preparations.
Travelers, sailors, and seamen who are compelled to land at ports where yellow fever and other epidemics prevail will find it a safe and valuable preventive. l
