D. LENZl ET 'AL DENTAL MEASUREMENT WIRE CONTAINER Filed Oct 14. 1921 ject.
Patented Sept. 4, 1923.
DWIGHT LENZI AND GEORGE O. DESCI-IAIVIPS, OF IDAHO FALLS, IDAHO.
DENTAL MEASUREMENT-WIRE CONTAINER.
Application filed October 14, 1921.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, DW'IGHT Lnnzr and Gnonon O. Dnsornmrrs, both citizens of the United States, and both residing at Idaho Falls, in the county of Bonneville and State of Idaho, have invented a new and useful Dental lileasurement-l l ire Container, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to a new manner of maintaining dental measurement wire in a sanitary, yet easily accessible, container. The object of our invention is to provide convenient method of keeping dental measurement wire free from dust and dirt, and at the same time making it more readily available to the dentist when at his bench.
We attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is an isometric view of con tainer; Fig. 2, sectional view of the container; Fig. 3, back view of container, showing hinge; Fig. 4, front view of container, showing receptacle on container case as holder for rubber pad.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
The container consists of a cylindrical shell (see Fig. 1) of suilicient size to hold a spool of strand material, and to permit the spool to revolve as the strand material is withdrawn from it. The cylinder C is fastened to the standard I by means of bolts K and nut N. and said standard is prosided with screw holes J so that the device can be readily attached to a solid object. If desired, the standard may be omitted and the cylinder bolted directly to a solid ob- A portion of the side of the cylinder opposite the standard is separated from the remainder of the cylinder by which-a lid A is formed, which operates on a hinge H, consisting of an axially disposed rod G gripped by alternate hinge flanges extending from the lid and shell of the container, and is automatically closed by the spring M, which is mounted on the said rod and about which the hinge revolves; by means of this Serial No. 5016805 lid the container may be opened suificiently to permit a spool of strand material to be placed therein. A portion of the lid opposite the hinge is extended beyond the edge of the opening in the container, forming a lifting tab 13 for the lid. The strand material is withdrawn from the container thru a slot F in the receptacle and wall of the shell and also thru a rubber pad of steam packing rubber D, which provides tension on the strand material and serves as a brush for the strand material as it is withdrawn from the container. The slot is also for the purpose of threading and for a passage and guide for the strand material. The rubber is held in a receptacle E and may be removed from time to time and replaced by another piece.
We claim as our invention:
A receptacle for holding a spool of strand material comprising a cylindrical container, a stand detachably supporting said container and adapted to be attached to any suitable supporting object, a lid opposite said stand nd attached to said container by means of a hinge, said hinge comprising an axially disposed rod gripped by alternate hinge flanges attached to said lid and said container, :1 spring mounted on said rod to automatically close said lid, a lifting tab attached to said lid opposite said hinge, a pocket-forming member attached to said container opposite said hinge, a rubber pad disposed in the pocket thus formed, and a short vertical slot in the front wall of said container, in said rubber pad and in ,said pocket-forming member adapted to have the strand material withdrawn therethrough nd act a a guide, tension device and brush for said material, all substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof we have affixed our signatures.
