APPARATUS Fon PREPARING- AND MULTIPLYN-e rieur COPIES.`
Application filed March 5, 1823. Serial No. 622,967.
carrying this out comprises the spreading out ot a livingplant or parts thereof witha slight pressure, preparing from this plant y in a single continued exposure ya negative on a sensitive paper such as heliography paper which does not unfavorably ychange even when exposed a long time an produce ing from this negative any number oi positive copies in ,any color uponla sensitive,-
fabric.
In the apparatus for executing the method, a flexible carpet having liexible filaments is yprovided and arranged in a heliography printing frame, for inserting and kholding a spread plant auditor tightly snugging the sensitive paper to the plant.
The accompanying drawing shows one eonstructional example of the apparatus according to the invention, like numerals indicating like parts throughout and Vin which- Figure 1 is an elevation of the printing frame, Y

showing a sensitized paper in place,
Fig. 6 is a similar sectional view showing a method of applying the carpet, and4 Fig. 7 is a sectional view Vsimilar to Fig. 5. The apparatus shown on thedrawing conip prises a solid wood rameF, a glass plate E,
a biparted cover A, two holding bars G for y holding the inserted plant P and the negative paper D without pressure, and a flexible Y kcarpet B havingvlead filaments. The inclined guides by means of the bars Gr hold the cover A. in position. v
1When a plant l? is to be printed, an extra thin sensitized negative heliography paper D that is the usual sepia paper which does not unfavorably change even when exposed a long time, is laid with the sensitive face on the inner side of the glass E. The carpet B with the lead filaments is then laid upon the paper B and bothare rolled back. Hereupon the plant is pushed with its lower end under the roller B D. Then the parts' oi the plant adjacent to the roller B D are `r brought in that position on the glass plate which is desired in the image, whereupon the'carpet is suitably unroll'ed together with the negative paper. The weightk of the lead carpet insures an equal `pressure and will snugly hold thepaper to the plant and the plant to the glass plate. When the plant has been carefully inserted, the apparatus is closed by meansoi the cover A, and the bars G, `but without exerting a sensible pressure. Then the negative is exposed to any suitable light rays until even the finest structural parts of the plant begin to be marked. `When the exposure is ,suilicienia the copy is re- Vmoved from the apparatus, developed, ixed f and dried, and will. then be ready orprinting any number of positives. Figs. 5 and 7 show how a positive paper Tis inserted and printed in the trame A.
lt is however understood that any suitable material can be used for the carpet and that any objectsL can be printed which can be adapted to a printing frame. The essential if feature of thevflexible carpet is that its weight will exert equal pressure at all points. l claim as my invention: p LA flexible carpet iorlphotograp'hic apparatus having heavy flexible filaments thereon. i
2. InV an apparatus for preparing photow graphic images, `a flexible carpet having Hex- `ible. lilaments adapted to bev arranged in a .heliography copying frame, for inserting and holding a plant and for tightly snugging the sensitivev paper toV the `plant by Ameans of the weight of said carpet.
3. A flexible carpet for photographie apparatus having liexible metallic lilaments thereon.
Il. A flexible carpet for photographie ap- 5 paratus having flexible lead larnents there- 5. An apparatus for preparing plant images comprising a frame provided with a glass plate; a lexible carpet having flexible 10 lilainents thereon adapted to exert equal pressure by Weight at all points against said glass plate for inserting and holding a plant and for tightly snugging the Sensitive paper to the plant by means ot the Weight ol" said carpet; and a cover vfor said frame.
In testiniony whereof l have allixed my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
