KEY, RING,
. Application filed December 20, 1922. Serial No. 608,112.
To all whom it'may concern;
Be it known that 1, LE ROY A. VVALTnns, a citizen of the United States, residing at Miami, in the county of Dade and State of Florida, have invented new and useful Improvements in Key Rings, of which the following is a specification.
My present invention has reference to a key retainer. In carrying out my invention, it is my purpose to produce a key'retainer that includes a ring or loop portion on which the keys are hung, means being provided on the ring or loop for dividing the. keys. into series, while associated withthe ring or loop there is an indicator plate or dial having suitable data or inscriptions thereon to in dicate the exact position of the various keys on the ring or loop and the location of the doors having the locks which are operated by! the respective keys. i I
A further ob'ectis. to produce a key retainer having an index thereon whereby the position and use of the various keys may be readily and accurately determined andwhich shall comprise an extremely simple construction which may be cheaply manu factured and marketed.
The foregoing objects, and others which.
will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, may be accomplished by a construction, combination and operative association of parts such as is disclosed by the drawing which accompanies and which forms part of this application.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a plan view of the improvement.
Figure 2 is a sectional 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a sectional view on the line .33 of Figure 2.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, the numeral 1 designates a split ring or loop which is preferably constructed of wire and embodies a natural resiliency. The loop has its ends bent, the said ends being directed toward each other and being received in barrels or beads 2 formed on the outer corners of the index or indicator plate or disk 3. Between the loops or barrels 2, the plate 8 is provided with an outward extension 4, the same being provided with a slot 5 whereby the device may be suspended from a suitable support. .The plate 3 is in the form of a shield, the rounded portion view on the line thereof being centrally rovided with an extension 6 through which the loop 1 passes. The loop is thus hingedly'connected to the plate, the angle ends 7 of the said loop are designed to be withdrawn from the beads or barrels 2 to permit of the arrangement ofthe keys 8 on the said loop. The. keys are spaced awayfrom each other so as to arrange the same in series,.bysuitable .disks 9 that are slidablyarranged'on the loop. 1
The plate 3 has divisions corresponding with the number of disks. The dividing lines between thesedivisions are indicated by the numeral 10, the spaces between these lines corresponding with the number of keys. Also the spaces between these lines have indicating characters adjacent the top and bottom of the divisions, indicated in the drawing by the numerals 13 and 14:. Each division is provided with a serial number 15, adjacent to the top of the plate 3, and above the serial numbers there is space for the name of the owner or care-taker carrying the key ring, as well as space for the name of the building in which the keys are used.
By glancing at'the data on the plate, the proper key may be readily grasped to operate the lock ofthe door therefor, the location of the door being indicated by inscrip tions 12 in the longitudinal divisions on the plate 3.
It is thought that the foregoing description, when taken in connection with the drawing will fully set forth the construction, operation and advantages of the improvement to those skilled in the art to which this invention relates, it being noted spring loop having inwardly directed ends,
a plate having one end hingedly connected 1 to the loop and having its opposite corners provided with beads to receive the angle ends of the loop therein, said loop designed to have keys arranged thereon, and said plate having inscriptions to indicate the place of use of the several keys on'the loop. 2. In a key retainer, a split spring loop designed to receive keys thereon, disks on the loop for dividing the keys-into series, said loop-having its ends inwardly directed, a plate having a central extension to which the loop is pivoted and having its opposite corners provided with beads that receive the ends of the loop therein, said plate between the beads having a slotted extension, said plate having longitudinal lines dividing the 10 same into series which correspond with the series of spaced disks, said plate having other divisions between said lines or the inscription of numerals approximately corresponding in number With the keys in the different series and also having data to indicate the places at which the several keys are to-be employed.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
LE li-OY A. WALTERS.
