Description

NITED STATES HENRY K. CRUIT, OF WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.
EMPROVEMENT IN LA PPING JOINTS FOR PIPES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 146,65?, dated January 20, 1874; application led October 18, 1873.
T0 alt whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY K. CRUIT, of XVashington city, in the county of Vlfashing ton and District of Columbia, have invented a new Lapping Joint for Pipes 5 and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the aecompanyin g drawin which form part of this specification.
Figure l is a side View of my new lappingjoint for pipes. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section.
Like letters in both figures of the drawing indicate likeparts.
In gas-fitting and plumbing it is frequently found necessary to carr f one pipe across another, which is done by heating and bending the pipe over the crosspipe, or bending it over without heating it, as the case will admit of, all of which requires a good deal of time and labor to accomplish successfully withoutbreaking the pipe. Now, the object of this invention is to avoid this; and it consists of a lapping joint,77 made of malleable iron, brass, or other suitable material, and curved so as to lap snugly over a cross-pipe, and having' a screw itting at each end to connect with the end of a pipe on each side of the said crosspipe, the said joint to be manufactured and sold the same as other articles are, for gastters and plumbers use.
A represents the joint suitably curved to lap over a cross-pipe, and made straight for a short distance from where the curve begins to the ends, and provided with screw-threads a a, so as to connect the joint with the ends of the pipe on the sides of the cross-pipe.`
As hereinbefore mentioned, a good deal of time and expense are required to accomplish the crossing of 011e pipe over another, and
made of brass will give a neat nisli to the pipe when left exposed.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim therein as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The lapping joint A, having a curve to fit over a cross-pipe, and screw-ttings c a on the ends for making the proper connections, substantially as shown, and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I clailn the lforegoing I have hereunto set my hand this 22d d ay of September, 1873. HENRY K. CRUIT.
