A device for holding aclapper against pivoted movement comprising a relatively fixed bracket, a member havingoneend' pivoted tosaid bracket, a sleeve'mounted thereon, abolt having a head at one end and screw threads at the opposite'end extending into the sleeve, a notch in the headfor engaging over a strap or the hire on sand clapper, and
a nut on the screw threaded end of the bolt for adjusting the length of the device.

In combination with the tool carriage oi a planing machine having a clapper box thereon, and a clapper pivotally. mounted in said clapper box, of means for holding'said clapper against pivotal movement compris ing abracket'arm secured to the carriage, a member comprismg a sleeve having an ex tension thereon. pivoted to said bracket, bolt having one end scr w threadedito' said sleeve, and ahead at the other end of said bolt having a notch thereinadapted to fit 7 over a member on said clapper, said screw threaded end carrying a nut, whereby the length of said means may be adjusted,-

In combination with the tool carriage of a planing machine having a clapper box thereon and a clapper mounted in said cl apper box, of means torclamping said clapper against pivotal movement comprising a bracket and a brace, said bracket being provided with'a semi spherical socket, and said brace comprising a tubular member having a spherical head at one end thereof adapted to fit Said socket, a bolt having a notched head at one end, and ascrow threaded end adapted to be lnsertcd into the lowerend of said tubular member, anda nut on-said threaded portion stationary comprising a brace adjustable to length, abracket adapted to be'secured to the planer againstwhich one end'of the brace is adapted to rest, theopposite end of thc bracebcing provided with a'jnotch to receive a projecting portion .on the clapper.
